I don't know about anyone else, but for me, music is a fluid experience. Granted, there are songs that will always be "favorites." But I also find that my current "favorite," varies as time progresses, mood changes and experience broadens. My "favorite" song of the moment is a song called "Esteem" by 8 Stops 7. It's a haunting melody which fits a portion of my life word-for-word. Honestly, first time I listened to it, I cried. So what's your "Song of the Week?" And why? (Remember, if you're going to quote from the song, please recognize the artist and keep it to a few lines!) [This message has been edited by Christopher (edited 09-26-2000).] |

I have so many favourite songs it would scare the pants off of a conservative person who follows rules...like 'favourite' represents a penchant for a singular entity... Today, however, my favourite song is called 'Promise of You' by Edwin McCain. The promise of you sleeps in the air the air that I breathe and I know that it's true don't have to convince myself to believe. Not only is it incredibly beautiful...in fact it has reached down right inside my soul and won't leave...but it is also very pertinent right now. Sigh. Absolutely incredible song. ![]() "He looked across the silky surface of the Severn... it was a famously difficult river with fierce tides..." From Jack Maggs |

Finally!!!!!!! Some one who appreciates the musical genuis of Edwin McCain. I haven't heard that one, but I LOVE his music. Most of the people I talk to haven't even heard of him, so it's good to find someone who thinks his music his great (sorry, I should say their music). As for my song of the week? Oh gosh, there are so many of them...um...maybe...I like Edwin McCain's "Through the Floor" but that's like Chris said, it's an all time favourite. So my song of the week would have to be... "It's My Life" by Jon bon Jovi. **Shell** |

Okay, Okay...I'm here...(serenity glares at the sun...) Sound check..."Testing, Mike One, One Two Three...Test...Test..." sigh... My offering for the week? Twisted by Joni Mitchell My analyst told me, that I was right out of my head, the way he described it, he said I'd be better dead, than live... I didn't listen to his jive... I knew all along, that he was all wrong, and I knew that he thought, I was crazy but I'm not. My analyst told me, that I was right out of my head, he said I'd need treatment, but I'm not that easily led, he said I was the type that was most inclined, when out of his sight to be out of my mind, and he thought I WAS NUTS, no more ifs or ands or buts... They say as a child that I appeared a little bit wild with all my crazy ideas, but I knew what was happening I knew I was a genius, what's so strange when you know that you're a wizard at three? I knew that this was meant to be. I heard little children were supposed to sleep tight, that's why I got into the vodka one night, my parents got frantic, didn't know what to do, but I saw some crazy scenes before I came to, now, do you think I was crazy? I may have been only three, but I was swingin'! They all laughed at angry young men. They all laughed at Edison, and also at Einstein... so why should I feel sorry if they just couldn't understand the idiomatic logic that went on in my head? I had a brain. I was insane. Oh, they used to laugh at me when I refused to ride on those double-decker buses because there was no driver on the top. My analyst told me, that I was right out of my head, but I said Dear Doctor, I think that it's you instead, because I have got a thing that's unique and new, to prove that I'll have the last laugh on you, 'cause instead of one head-- I've got two! (and ya know two heads are better than one..) Thank you very much. See ya at the show. |

This is my song of the year: "One Voice" by Billy Gillman. If you haven't heard this little boy croon, you are missing a treat. ![]() Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn. JP Most people would rather die than think; in fact, they do so. B. Russell |

My favorite song of the week is "My Everything" by 98 degrees... it's so sweet! Their new album just came out today, and I'm about to high-tail it over to wal-mart to pick up a copy. (God bless Napster and their illegal MP3's!) False gems may shine as brightly as the genuine article, but there are always those who can tell the difference. |

My song of the week, which has maintained a steady palce at the top of my Song of the Week list since early July, is one from the '70s. "It Never Rains in Southern California", by Albert Hammond. It has this amazingly beautiful melody, and the words just about break my heart. Got on board a west bound 747 Didn't think before deciding what to do. All that talk of opportunities TV breaks and movies Rang true, sure rang true. Seems it never rains in Southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before. It never rains in California But girl don't they warn ya It pours, man it pours! Out of work I'm out of my head Out of self respect, I'm out of bread I'm underloved, I'm underfed I wanna go home... Seems it never rains in Southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before. It never rains in California But girl don't they warn ya It pours, man it pours! Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it Had offers but don't know which one to take. Please don't tell 'em how you found me don't tell 'em how you found me Give me a break, give me a break! Seems it never rains in Southern California Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before. It never rains in California But girl don't they warn ya It pours, man it pours! It just does something to me. Reminds me of someone I read about once. Elizabeth |

I found this great songwriter! He's written a lot and I think he's really young too so I'm hoping he'll be around for a while. I guess my favorite that he wrote is called "Symphony in D Minor". ![]() |

Hmm... definetly "Stellar" by Incubus for the moment. I don't know why but the light guitar combined with lyrics that I think are stellar just make this a great one for me, and I loved their last release "Pardon Me." "Pardon me as I burst into flames" Abrahm Simons "Keep on dreamin' boy 'cause when you stop dreaming it's time to die" - Blind Melon |

Hmm, mine would have to be "Do What You Have To Do" by Sarah McLachlan off of the "Mirrorball" CD. Something about that song, the quiet melody, the painful, soulful words (especially in the live version) never fails to make me teary eyed...so, that's my song for the week.. *Krista Knutson* "Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart." -Confucious |

My all time favorite song will always be "Imagine" by John Lennon. I don't think any explanation is necessary for this one since it speaks for itself...the song of the week is a little trickier. There are so many that I really like and I like all different styles so it's hard to pick just one. Let me get back to you on this whilst I ponder the question a little more. Well, there are two that usually fit my mood and mode of thinking. One is 'Just to See You Smile' by Tim McGraw: "Just to see you smile, I'd do anything that you wanted me to. When all is said and done, I'd never count the cost, it's worth all that sauce, just to see you smile." The other one is 'Flowers on the Wall' by The Statler Brothers: "Countin flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all. Playin solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one. Smokin cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo. Now don't tell me I've nothing to do." There is one other of honorable mention, by Jimmy's Chicken Shack: 'What Do I Do (Right)'. That one is self-explanatory. ![]() |

everlong, by foo fighters "Hello I've waited here for you Everlong Tonight I throw myself into And out of the red, out of her head she sang Come down And waste away with me Down with me Slow how You wanted it to be I'm over my head, out of her head she sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang Breathe out So I can breathe you in Hold you in And now I know you've always been Out of your head, out of my head I sang And I wonder When I sing along with you If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang And I wonder If everything could ever feel this real forever If anything could ever be this good again The only thing I'll ever ask of you You've got to promise not to stop when I say when She sang" |

I downloaded "Promise of you" and "I could not ask for more" on napster...Promise of you has a really cool saxaphone riff in it (at least I think it's a saxaphone...) I've got 'Misguided Roses', when I first got it I couldn't stop listening to it, it's got some really catchy tunes in there.. |

Wow - surprised I knew almost all of them! I didn't (and won't, no-no-no-no-no-makethebadmanstop) know the 98 Degrees one - bad mojo Kemosabe... And I don't recognize the one's by Nick Drake, which Trevor listed. But other than that. Wow!!! MB20's new one is awesome!!! (though not recommended if you've suffered a recent breakup and have sharp objects nearby...) Heather - If'n you're interested (Janet Marie told me about it) Rob Thomas (Lead for MB20) was also in another band before, called Tabitha's Secret. I got the album (thanks Janet) ironically called "Don't Play With Matches" - on it, I found a song I recognized, though it was a little different - 3AM. ![]() |

I would have to say that the song of the week for me is "I Want To Know what Love Is" by Foreigner "In my life there's been heartache and pain I don't know if I can face it again, I can't stop now I've travelled so far to change this lonely life, I want to know what love is, I want you to show me" The song of my life is Angel By fellow Canadian Sarah Mclachlan "You spend all your time waiting for that second chance, for a break that would make it okay, there's always some reason to feel not good enough and it's hard at the end of the day ....let me empty, oh and weightless then maybe I'll find some peace tonight In the arms of the angel fly away from here from this dark cold, hotel room and the endlessness that you fear, you are pulled from the reckage of your silent reverie, you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here" A great question Chris! ![]() The beauty of poetry gives my soul wings to fly free within dreams |

Silver, Blue, & Gold From the Bad Company Album "Run With The Pack". Written By Paul Rodgers, 1976 Badco Music Inc. ...As for why, Well It's been a favourite for a long time and just now it's appropriate! In the beginning, I believed every word that you said Now that you're gone my world is in shreds Oh, you loved me and left me You took all the things that I needed so bad I'm standing here wondering where is the love that I had? Oh, give me silver, blue and gold The colour of the sky I'm told My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue In the beginning, yeah, There was something of love that was mine, Now that it's gone, whoa, I'm cryin' Oh, the time that it takes for a love To grow cold is a wonder to me I'm walkin' around with my head Hangin' down, tell me where is she? Give me silver, blue and gold, The colour of the sky I'm told, MY rcry-ay-ain-bow is overdue. Don't forsake me 'cause I love you. Don't forsake me 'cause I love you. Give me silver, blue and gold, The colour of the sky I'm told. My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue. Give me silver, blue and gold, The colour of the sky I'm told. My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue. Now, give me silver, blue and gold, The colour of the sky I'm told. 1 My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue, yeah Oh, don't forsake me' cause I love you. Don't forsake me' cause I love you, Yeah. Hmmm . . . well, my song of the week for every week really would have to be Michael W. Smith's song "Friends" because without them life would be empty and incomplete. Packing up the dreams God planted In the fertile soil of you Can't believe the hopes He's granted Means a chapter in your life is through But we'll keep you close as always It won't even seem you've gone 'Cause our hearts in big and small ways Will keep the love that keeps us strong And friends are friends forever If the Lord's the Lord of them And a friend will not say never 'Cause the welcome will not end Though it's hard to let you go In the Father's hands we know That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends With the faith and love God's given Springing from the hope we know We will pray the joy you'll live in Is the strength that now you show But we'll keep you close as always It won't even seem you've gone 'Cause our hearts in big and small ways Will keep the love that keep us strong To me, that says it all. ![]() LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Ok, Ok...I now know the difference there...but it ain't my fault...if Mr. McGraw didn't always do that southern nasal twang, I wouldn't have been so confused. Anyhow, I like it better with 'sauce', being another term for money, cash, clams, lucre, payolla, deneiro, change, bills, spots, etc.... ![]() |

Well, I'd have to say my fav right now is "Home for a Rest" by Spirit of the West. Probably because of my current facination with celtic music. This sond evolved from tradional much reels such as "Castle Kelly" "The Glass of Beer" and "Swallow's Tail". Its a great modern dancing song any time I have heard it in a bar or pub the whole places just goes crazy with hands in the air dancing.. gets the blood flowing to be sure. Home For a Rest (Spirit of the West) You'll have to excuse me, i'm not in my best; I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left. These so called vacations will soon be my death. I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest. We arrived in December, and London was cold. So we stayed in the bars on Charing Cross Road. We never saw nothing, but brass taps and oak, Kept a shine on the bar with the sleeves of our coats. You'll have to excuse me, i'm not in my best; I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left. These so called vacations will soon be my death. I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest. Take me home! Euston Station the train journey north In the buffet car, we lurched back and forth Past old crooked dykes, through Yorkshire's green fields. We were flung into dance, as the train jagged and reeled You'll have to excuse me, i'm not in my best; I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left. These so called vacations will soon be my death. I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest. Take me home! By the light of the moon she'd drift through the streets A rare old perfume so seductive and sweet She'd tease us and flirt as the pubs all closed down, and walk us all home and deny us a round. You'll have to excuse me, i'm not in my best; I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left. These so called vacations will soon be my death. I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest. Take me home! The gas heater's empty, it's damp as a tomb, The spirits we drank are now ghosts in the room. I'm knackered again, come on sleep take me soon. And, don't lift up my head 'til the twelve bells at noon. You'll have to excuse me, i'm not in my best; I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left. These so called vacations will soon be my death. I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest. Take me home! Parker [This message has been edited by Haleyja (edited 10-23-2000).] |

Tough question, Chris. I'm a country fan so I love anything by Lonestar but particularly "Amazed". I think though my song of the week would have to be "The Good Things In Life" by Aussies Adam Brand and Graeme Connors. "I wish you every happiness and pray you'll always have the best of the good things in life." I think it's a beautiful sentiment. Dee [This message has been edited by Dee (edited 10-23-2000).] |

My song for week is Goodnight Moon by Shivaree. It's about darkness and fear and the light that the heavens bring for consolation. Interesting lyrics and great melody. How can you save me? When the dark comes right in and takes me, from my front walk and into bed, where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree |

Joni Mitchell and Foo Fighters? God, I love you guys... ![]() Song of the week? This one tops my list (subject to change tomorrow): Verdi Cries Natalie Merchant (from her 10,000 maniac days spec. In my Tribe) The man in 119 takes his tea alone/ Mornings we all rise to wireless Verdi cries/ I'm hearing opera through the door/ The souls of men and women, impassioned all/ Their voices climb and fall; battle trumpets call/ I fill the bath and climb inside, singing/ la la la la la la/ la la la la la la He will not touch their pastry but every day they bring him more/ Gold from the breakfast tray, I steal them all away/ and then go and eat them on the shore/ la la la la la la/ la la la la la la La la la la la la I draw a jackal-headed woman in the sand/ sing of a lover's fate sealed by jealous hate/ then wash my hand in the sea/ With just three days more I'd have just about learned the entire score to Aida/ Holidays must end as you know/ All is memory taken home with me: the opera, the stolen tea, the sand drawing, the verging sea, all years ago. la la la la la la... la la la la la la... ~ Beth Now I've been happy lately Thinking about the good things to come And I believe it could be Something good has begun |
