I haven't thought of this friend of my mother's for at least two decades, but just now, I could almost taste her homemade hot tamales... damn. sigh She's been dead now for at least thirty years, and I can't even remember her name; but her tamales were famous, and when she made them it was some huge social event--we would all soak corn husks for her and go help her roll.  So...what are you craving?  |

Ummm why do you soak corn husks, and what do you use them for first of all. I often think of a childhood friend, (not Willow,) whose family was very poor. My family didn't want me to play with her so I would sneak out to her house. This family was Jewish, and I loved Friday over there and her mom's food. As a treat, we would get mustard on matzo crackers, and I loved it! Lunch sometimes was just macaroni, with butter, and I never got great stuff like that at home. Every time I think of them, I haul out the mustard, as by then I can darn near taste it. There was always enough in that house for anyone who dropped in, but in mine, you needed reservations and we had tons to eat, go figure? I am just so thankful I had some normal people enter my life growing up, she was one of them, and I crave those crackers. You always take me back to the nicest places Karen with your thoughts. |

I actually had one. An oyster, I mean. It didn't taste all fresh and salty. Now I'm craving oysters. It's like chewing on the ocean when they are good. nom nom nom And hey--I've never been to San Francisco either. *pout* But Rice-a-Roni sucks. *laughing* oysters...man...I cam smell them. |

Good grief Reggie--I hope you're not typing that from Death Row! Maybe we should start a "last meal" thread? I find myself having to learn to cook all over again. (Healthier eating has finally occurred to the coon ass country cooks, here.) Actually, I didn't "get" it until I realized that I was throwing a lot of gravy away--nobody was eating my cooking anymore. A new day has dawned and if someone still has a coffee can of bacon drippings on their stove--somebody will call a physician. *sheesh* Love ya hun. I'm gonna go eat another orange and pout. |

Oh Lord! Karen I never laughed so hard at your comment to Reg, thanks for the senior moment. I will get you back for this when you get older!  My last meal would definitely be: Rack of Lamb, and lots of it! Greek Salad, Pita, Hummus, the works! AND Mudslide Cake, with extra chocolate and whipping cream. Oh, and Blue Hawaii cocktails with those cute little umbrellas in them. |

If my ulcers would cooperate, I'd have that Mudslide cake in liquid form. N'awlins is catching on, but we still have the drive through daiquiri shop. Good thing I don't drive. |

Wow. Today I find me wishing for a pear, some gouda cheese and wheat thins with a nice hot cup of Rooibos tea (with vanilla). I haven't been myself lately. I should go check.  |

ARGH! I normally don't do "sweets" [although I bake 'em and distribute them to anyone who starts salivating... But I know what I need tonight! One of our local Italian restaurant's choice dessert... Tiramisu! One order/serving can realistically feed four people... but I've been known to indulge! |

...covered cherries... I had to prep a donation for Hospice this week...and they said "anything chocolate..." So, being that I'm in a mini-state of mind lately, I found a chocolate/cherry cake recipe with a fudge candy topping, so altered it just so that I filled six dozen mini paper cups with a pie-filling cherry each, then took the remaining filling, mushed the remaining cherries, followed the recipe through and added what I thought might be required.... some 84 mini cups later, after a good cooling, I frosted all with it's candy coating.... and my husband ate his fair share. No...I never had a bit of a bite. |

FYI... The little Swedish town I'm now working in? They have a little Mexican restaurant situated in there now...and I'm feeding my habit...at least 3 days a week. I decided the other day that I'm going to take one offering at a time, and go through the [heh heh] whole enchilada! |
