I have been idly wondering what (or who) brought you to PiP. Sometimes I read a post where a person reveals how they came across PiP and I think it's interesting. So how did you get here? Thanks for sharing. I was brought here on my birthday about four years ago by a friend who is known here by the name DivineChaos. She doesn't spend time here any longer, but I am always grateful that she linked me to PiP. I think of her often as I spend time here. So what's your story? Alison |

I actually first came across PiP while looking for poetry by an author I do not remember specifically. Google sent me to netpoets.com/classic, and it was only a quick couple clicks from there. |

Dear Alison, the invitation to Pip for me came from Eric P. McCarty (Ericc) and I am ever so glad he had discovered this beautiful poetry site. We had met on Deepak Chopra's site, where we also published our poetry in the message and prayer boards. We had a great time there the first years, but now things changed and nobody posts poetry there anymore. So I am very happy for Pip! I reproach Eric for not visiting Pip often, hopefully he will be back regularly (... the same I hope for many other friends!). Love and joy. What a pleasant memory to look back upon...June 25, 1999... a Decade ago! Poetry to me has always held a semblance of Passion. I had, for awhile, been a member of another poetry group, but it was mostly angelic in nature. They did not have the system set up to keep your poetry on line in the way that Ron has his system set up; I know I lost it one day, and all I could think of was the passion that had been present when I had shared my poetry. I don't know exactly what I had asked the internet to provide to me, but it had something to do with Passion...and voila. I somehow magically arrived in the blue pages, a fairly new site on the internet. Not that all of the members were new, oh no...they had been together in various ways at another site or two, but Ron had struck out on his own [bless his heart] and I've been welcomed home ever since. One of the first few to welcome me were Nan, and Sy. Seymour was always so pleasant and gentle with this newcomer...I miss him greatly. Several others came by to say hello; more than several welcomed me into their lives, figuratively and literally. ![]() My personal Road to PiP has been like some favored ice cream of mine...a rocky road at times. Not everyone understands a poet, and I've fit well into that block of folks that just aren't understood. Not that my poetry can't be understood; but the what and why of its being written, or even the need to write. But that's okay. Look at the community that I am surrounded by, with, and in. I wouldn't have my life any other way. ![]() |

I was studying Edgar Allan Poe's Poetry and found a link to Passions in Poetry. I remember that because it partly inspired my first name at the site: Poeminister. |

Though sometimes the road to PiP leads us away, it's always there to come back to. Though I don't post much anymore (I do read here a lot), PiP will NEVER be a site I lose contact with - here is what I wrote when I hit post number 10,000: *** I came to Passions by invitation. I was posting on the MiningCo.com forum (now About.com) and so was a gentleman by the name of Ron Carnell. In November, 1998, he invited me to post on his website. I submitted a poem and magically it was accepted. The site began to grow, and grow and grow. By January, 1999 there were hundreds of poems. I submitted a few more and they were accepted. At Nan’s request, Ron created a forum for poets to post their poetry that would give them instant feedback. I didn’t post there as I was still unsure of my work and would have felt crushed if someone didn’t like it! Then in May 1999, Ron opened a second forum. “Old Blue” as we called it. I joined the group there and thus began to gain acceptance for my work. When this forum opened, there was a small group of us left and we quickly gathered more and more members – each unique – each adding something to Passions. What does Passions do for me? Nothing. The people here do a lot for me though! Give me acceptance, feedback, honesty, laughter, tears, sighs and most importantly, friendship. Why do I keep coming back? Because it would hurt too much to leave. I'd like to thank Ron for believing in me and for giving me a chance to be a part of this magnificent creation. To all the members here, for all the hours of wonderful reading, the shared lives, the tears, the laughter, the pain - thank you. Thank you................ |

These responses are pretty much all true - with a little spam thrown in.. ![]() The "Old Blue" pages were wonderful, but the software wasn't sufficient for our needs. I did, in fact, ask Ron for these forums. Then I learned very quickly to be cautious of asking for stuff from him, because he always does his best to accommodate. Now look where we are! Have I mentioned that Ron's the BESTEST!? ![]() |

Alison, An excellent question. In September of '99 I was doing a little net surfing of various poetry sites and stumbled across PIP. I'd been writing off and on for about three years or so ( mostly humerous bits, go figure ! ). After perusing some of what was being posted here and seeing what a friendly site it was I signed on and posted my 1st piece , a rather amatuerish bit that had something to do with understanding how people overcome their handicaps and aspire to do great things. Nan was the first to reply, and the rest as they say, is history. I would very much like to thank everyone here for putting up with me over the years and for all the help and advice that have helped me to become a better writer. Doc |

I was brought here by "chasing rain" aka Leah. She strongly suggested I check the place out - So I did. Turns out, this would be the catalyst to making some life-altering friends. I met alot of people from my home-town on this site than I figured! My life wouldn't be the same if it weren't for this forum - Not trying to be trite at all either. haha. |

After a long and costly court battle, the judge sentenced me to PiP. To "learn to write and read poetry". I have hated it so far but some of the people are growing on me. I mean, come on ! putting your feelings down and words and sharing with others? Thats crazy!!! I see some others have been here for years....wow....and they write so good and seem to care about each other too. Amazing to me. Well maybe there is something to it. I will do my part. but I am telling all right now....I am being forced to do it....and it WILL show. Zeitgeist. |

When we first got internet, I typed 'poetry' and then pressed 'search' and there it was, PIP and being a Dutchie, writing in my native tongue, I just wondered if I could write poems in English too. So I joined and translated one of my Dutch poems into English and then started to write directly in English, because translating Dutch poems often resulted in crap poetry. Got a lot of help on my grammar, even invented some new words once in a while and made friends, whom I've met during the Poetry gathering in Tampa about seven years ago. Made friends for life, lost some of them too soon and thanks to my best friend Balladeer, who was kind enough to go over my writings to eliminate any grammar flaws (which to my astonishment were only a few), I finally got the nerve to publish my first five Rhyming Image books on Blurb.com Never thought I would come this far, when I joined the blue pages in 2001. I've learned a lot since then and I thank you all for being here for me when I needed you. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

I was posting on another site and so was Marge Tindal. She was also posting on PiP and suggested I post here as well. I checked it out and was very, very intimidated by the wonderful quality of the poems. She finally convinced me and here I am occasionally! It is difficult to write as of late due to having MS but I find I am able to write little poems sometimes! Thank you Marge, Nan and especially Ron!!

I was surfing the web for writing aids, after being inspired by a dream to write. I still feel- If you have a city in your head, with stories unfolding. Put it on paper, and open a window for everyone to peer into your soul. Anyway- Some website actually had a link to a poem by Alison- Yes you. Now I throw poems up just to see if anyone likes what comes into my head. Reading the poems is always 100% better. |

Like so many others, I was brought here by a member who was a friend of mine (KristieSue). To return the favor, I have brought others along to share the joy. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "WHAT A RIDE |

My mum, Dee, discovered this lovely family, and introduced me. And through poetry (and a bit of prose), we've become friends, and the awesome, fantastic, wonderful, inspiring people here have helped me through crises, cheered with me when I graduated university, congratulated me on the birth of my adorable nephews, have been a friendly ear (or eye, I suppose in this case), a sounding board, a parent, a friend, whatever I've needed. I've been away for a few years, I see some old names, and new ones, and I've recently discovered the passing of some beautiful friends, which has been sad, but the love and friendship shown by the people here hasn't changed. |

I a Sophomore in high school, and typed "poetry" in a search engine, and voila! passions in poetry, but I think when I joined it was still passions.com or something along those lines, I feel like I've been a member FOREVER. Nearly a decade now... I can't remember my exact sign-up date. "Don't love me dispite my flaws, but because of them" |

I was in a chat room on another poetry site many years ago when Cerenity extended an invitation to me to join PIP in 2000, I drifted in and out at various stages over 3 years and finally returned in 2010 starting afresh and welcomed back with open arms even after many years absence.
