USA Highways - An amazing discovery!

Wow! I was watching television, and learned something I never knew before. The highways in the USA are marked for dummies like me. Did you know that the EVEN numbered freeways go east and west, and the ODD numbered ones go north and south? If not, just think you won't get lost ever again, well maybe? Now when on I-5, I won't advise anyone to turn right or left ever again.

And then there are diagonal highways like the one that runs from San Diego to Vegas; I think it's called the 15½?

And our highway infrastructure is [to me] not all that old, considering that Eisenhower was pretty much the one behind the push.
