Ok people. . . what with the big day around the corner. . . I'd like to know your 3-5 all-time favorite Romantic movies. . . Please list them here, and if you'd like, tell us a bit about why you like them. . . or, a special memory that you have of them. . .  And, if it's a movie that you think no one has heard of or seen, please include a little bit of extra info (like who it starred, when it came out, etc.) OK??? Great. . . here's my list!! in no particular order 1. Titanic What list would be complete without this movie?? I don't know about anyone else, but this movie moved me to tears. . . as well as everyone else in the theater. 2. The Princess Bride This movie has always been a favorite of mine. I even have the book!! It's a movie that everyone can enjoy. The story of Wesley and Buttercup is one that inspires. As you wish. . . 3. Romeo and Juliet If anyone has seen the movie version by Franco Zeferelli (sp), then you know what I'm talking about. Olivia Hussey and Edward Whiting give an inspired performance. Of course, the newer version with Leonardo diCaprio and Claire Danes is pretty good as well. 4. Made in Heaven Some of you may have seen me talk about this movie before. Kelly McGillis and Timothy Hutton play angels who meet in Heaven and fall in love, until she gets called back to Earth to live a new life. Timothy Hutton asks to be sent back to find her and what happens next is a magical tale for everyone who still believes in the power of love. 5. Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail Okay, I know that these are two differnt movies, but they both have similar plots, and the same stars (Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan). And if you haven't seen An Affair To Remember (it's referred to in Sleepless. . . ) then you've missed out on what a Romantic movie can be. These two round out my list. . . Well here goes... #1 all time favorite movie ~Edward Scizzorhands~ I just adore this movie in every sense don't ask me why ever since it was released I watch this movie every Feb 14th... #2 a movie I like to watch timeNtime again ~The man with the iron mask~ I like the period in time this movie represents, the romance, the mystery and suspense needless to say those muskateers rule #3 a movie that I treasure dearly ~When harry met sally~ An awesome comedyNromance film .. C'est moi, as if you didn't know! Oh now you are talking, I adore films, and collect them too. (I've got so many that I literally could keep Blockbusters supplied) But my all time favourite films, can't I have more than 5 Pretty pleaseeee xx 1 High Spirits. Darelle Hannah and Steve Guttenberge, Very funny, and a great film. 2Secret Admirer No one really famous in it, Girl falls for her best friend, writes him a letter and it gets mistakenly taken as a letter to several different people. Really funny and romantic. 3Romeo and Juliett Frank Zeferelli direction has never been beaten. Absolutely poetry in motion 4Sleepless In Seatle and by the same token When Harry Met Sally and You've Got Mail. There's a sneaky way to get three in 5Heathcliff the Cliff Richard show version of Wurthering Heights. It really is worth seeing even if you are not a Cliff fan. *ACK!*... er, sorry, hairball… I'm not one for mush... and I'm a Titanic virgin (THANK GOD!) But for a blessedly wonderful love story I suggest Wings Of Desire. One of my all time favorite movies (right behind Sophie's Choice -- another generally love-oriented movie, but there's less death involved in Wings  ). It SHOULD be at your local Blockbuster (mine had it) but you may have to do a bit of searching. Well worth the time and effort to look, though. Accessories: Eat pasta and drink wine while viewing, and light candles…. LOTS and LOTS of candles…. Preparations: Enjoyment is contingent upon both of you being alert and conversational. The Red Violin Dreamy, aching, smoothly sexy, and just downright amazing. Very long, but utterly entrancing. Romance without the nausea -- yeah! Accessories: The Soundtrack to the movie, to play afterwards while …other… activities are explored. Preparations: Close the blinds BEFORE the movie… I’d recommend this when both are less talkative and more sentimental. Oh, and LOTS and LOTS of candles…(positioned out of the way of movement) Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey Hepburn… do I really NEED to say anything else? When a more playful ambiance is desired… and laughter does WONDERS for any relationship: mature or advancing. Accessories: bountiful pastries to much on, a blanket to sprawl on, and maybe a cat if it’s handy. Preparations: giggly moods are good… plus an Audrey obsession/admiration (same difference, really) Beware of girls who will run to the closet for her nearest black dress and attempt the perfect pout all night. I.. wouldn’t .. know .. one.. of .. those. Lola Rente (Run, Lola, Run) German, but the subtitles don’t matter. It’s action based and short, but without the love, Lola wouldn’t run *sigh*. Contemporary, fast, interesting, and cute. If you want something different and have a thing for techno and/or fish sauce red, rent this. Accessories: Popcorn, and a fluent, fascinating guest. Preparations: for the schizophrenics or easily suggestible, have hair dye ready… I saw this and instantly HAD to get two cherry streaks…*shakes head* I’m so impressionable. Lolita lol.. just kidding… thinking about my relationship again, sorry… … k. Those are my little suggestions. Have fun! what's the name of the movie with Al Pacino and Meg Ryan and they both work in a diner? dammit!! what is the NAME of that movie.... *sigh*... it's like perfection when it comes to the definition of love and how rare the real deal is and how important it is to grab it quick when you see it before you miss it.... god, i LOVE that movie... if anybody can think of the name of it, let me know and if i think of it first, i'll come back and post it here... it's a must see if you're a romantic... so well done... al pacino bleeds my heart and i was ready to crawl into the screen and kick meg out, simply remove her from the picture and take her place... lol there's more movies i can think of, but i'll be back thanks sven... great topic |

1. Shakespeare in Love --- I don't know about you guys but i think this is the most romantic movie i've ever seen. yes, there's comdey in it, but what romantic movie doesn't. I didn't even want to see the movie, but i was forced to by a friend, and after that i bought the video the next day. 2. Bed of Roses --- Don't even ask me, just go rent it...I'll give you back your rent money if you don't like it 3. Notinghill --- Not a Hugh Grant or Julia Roberts fan, but the movie was moving. 4. Hmm..... Well, would "What Dream May Come" with Robin Williams and i dunno who else plays in it because as far as I'm concerned Robin Williams is DA MAN! I LOVE IT! All about soul mates, and it keeps your emotions going! LOVE IT! Thats the only one I can think of right now! |

I'm with Sven. The Princess Bride is probably one of THE best 'romantic' movies out there. It has a unique blend of all sorts of elements, and none of them really goes overboard. Firstly, the subtle commedy was beautifully done. It wasn't stupid commedy either. Secondly, the action was great. The battles of wits and strength were all well thought out. Finally, the romantic element was well woven into the story. It didn't make the story too sappy either, which is what often happens in most romantic films, [A la Titanic!!!  ] |

Please allow me to throw more movies into the mix. . . What Dreams May Come is a wonderful movie. . . and I love the scenery and such (it's a very different movie for Robin Williams). . . but did you believe him in it Temptress?? Was he the one that you would pictrue in that role?? (Just keeping the discussion going. . . ) The Red Violin I have not seen as of yet, but it's on my list. Did you know that the score by John Corigliano (one of America's foremost composers) won the Oscar for Best Score??? I heard part of it the other day on our local public radio station. . . it's amazing. . . When Harry Met Sally is Meg Ryan like the Queen of Romance movies or what?? This movie also brought the name of Harry Connick, Jr. to the world. Thank God!!! Ever After (great one SEA!!) is a wonderful re-telling of the Cinderella story. . . and this time, they got it right. . . and SEA. . . Sixteen Candles with Molly Ringwald (I love Molly Ringwald!!) is the classic 80's movie. . . just wonderful. . . and Xanadu!!! If you've never seen this one. . . you'll love it. . .it's like a guilty pleasure movie. . . Here they are, in no order, since they all tie for FIRST! Romeo and Juliet- The older version by Franco Zeferelli. They stay with the play, so I love it! It's wonderful acting, also, by actors who are about the ages that Shakespeare had in mind. TITANIC!-YES, I liked this movie! I think it's a beautiful love story, and I love historical films. Cudos to Cameron! Gone With the Wind- Not every romance is perfect,but this beautiful love story is timeless. Shakespeare in Love- This romance is SOOO beautiful, in spite of the historical flaws. And an unlikely choice... Braveheart- Yes, I know this is mainly an action movie, but the romances Mel Gibson has with his wife and the Princess of Wales are just beautiful. Billy Elliot..a movie that says when you find something you loveto do, don't worry what people will say, just do it! Shawshank Redemption...what hope and the love of freedom can do. The Other Sister (very moving) Never Been Kissed (with Drew Barrymore) City of Angels (gotta love Nicholas Cage) How can you save me? Now I know why Ron is my hero...he thinks Beauty and the Beast [TV] is a romance....and indeed it is.....I wouldn't have thought of that but I am glad he did because it brought to mind...many things...and if one thinks Hamilton's voice was great...was ANYONE listening to the beast?.... Movies: I wrote [or attempted a write] on Walk in the Clouds so that is one of my choices, as is Somewhere in Time Don Juan DeMarco and City of Angels... Gone with the Wind is a given.... |

Hmm.. Some part of it is the actors/actresses...Hmm.. Can we say...ROBIN WILLIAMS? He gives a great performance! As for the rest of it...well, I'm not sure how I define romance anymore.  In "My Best Friend's Wedding" I thought the whole scene at the end with Julia Roberts and her male friend was romantic. Call me weird, but I liked it. |

Oh! this should be easy to answer No poetry involved My favorite romantic movie Is Tarrraaaaaa! "Dream Team" with Michael Keaton on a field trip from a mental recovery institution trying to impress an old girl friend. "Quick Change" with Bill Murray and Gena Davis another somewhat romantic funny movie "Benny and Joon" with Johnny Depp romantically sad "Coneheads" with Dan Akroid and Chris Farley i found the movie romantically alien "Bitter Moon" with Peter Coyote and Hugh Grant romantically twisted |

there have been many great romantic movies written over the years, relatively recent ones like -when harry met sally- sleepless.. etc are great movies, but do they really compare with the likes of casablanca, an american in paris, the african queen, west side story, and on and on..lol--- i suppose one of my favorites though would have to be bridges of madison county. |

Ah yes. . . the classics. . . you have to love them all. . . One of my favorites is a movie called Intermezzo it's the first movie by a then-new Ingrid Bergman. . . it's about a pianist who falls in love with a violinist (played by Leslie Howard) and it's wonderful. . . simply wonderful. . . *sigh*. . .
