Hello everyone. ![]() If you get the chance, or if you care to, check out Johnny Cash and his last CD recorded before he died, titled "American IV: The Man Comes Around." There are many great renditions of previous recorded material here, of course with Johnny making those songs his own. One in particular is a Nine Inch Nails song titled, Hurt. The CD comes with a video for this song. You can check it out here on Youtube. Just click on the link below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go He was the man. In the video, it is quite haunting that the lyrics are related to his impending death. Even June, his wife, seems to know that he is to die soon. |

I've been a long time Cash fan. When I was a child of 11 or so, I remember hearing "A Boy Named Sue" and laughing out loud. The song hit home on a more personal note though, as I was listening to it with my father, who was named Thomas Carol and I caught a very strong sense that the song somehow meant much more to him than it ever would me ![]() I was overwhelmed by the sheer power of the "hurt" video when it came out. Cash has always held a very bold manner to anything he approached but I found this to be epic. I think it was his demeanor that was so much of his appeal, and he and he kept it into his final days. I will always remember him as "The Man in Black" but when I think about it, "the Man" is quite appropriate. |

I, also, am a Johnny Cash fan. The 'Man Comes Around' is one of my favorite albums and I think the title song is a one of Cash's masterpieces. Good intro post - and welcome to PiP. Alison |

You are welcome. ![]() The video, I believe, is Johnny Cash's epitaph. |

And (needless to say) Cash blows Reznor out of the water. When Reznor sings it, he sounds like a whiny brat. When Cash sings it, I believe him. And I hurt with him. |

I was raised on The Man in Black. Ha. We didn't even have modern plumbing but we had Johnny Cash way back in the holler. I've always appreciated his voice and lyrics. I feel his art was in his simplicity & depth. He could reach the lowest notes of a man and rattle the soul. No one captures the "dark train" quite like he does. Thanks for posting that link. Turns me to tears though, the way it should. His influence...timeless. |

I never really liked Johnny Cash... until I listened to his music. A quality man. |
