I think current state ID/Driver license is enough for diving and buying Alcohol.

A National ID center to handle people moving and tracking criminals? and a big government structure?
and if FBI or CIA want some information, Supreme court has to issue a permit?

A national ID would create jobs -- counterfeiting national ID's -- thus boosting the economy.

No one ever asked for my "divers" ID when I'd go to the Y.
