In a certain part of our dear world, in THIS certain part of my dear country, we, in New Orleans are experiencing an epidemic of SBH (SERIOUSLY BAD HANGOVERS) What's the cure? (and please,we know prevention does not work here...in fact, very little, WORKS here, is why New Orleans is known as the BIG EASY...also explains our football record.)

So please, if you have a miracle cure that does not involve prescriptions or "hair of the dog that bit ya"? DO TELL....serenity sighs...aching, exhausted...and appreciates too, the very catholicism of Lent now...ready to give up EVERYTHING....ouch ouch ouch ouch

..you say this only happens during mardi gras?... ... hmmmm...

well, believe me, though i'm trying to add a little levity to the situation, i truly am not laughing..... i know about the ouch....

you're asking for a cure? sleep, food, abstinence...... vitamin b-complex helps but not much

but i have a couple of questions..... was it fun? you still have your panties? LOL.... you know, the ones you caught from the float.... *g .... do you remember?

oh, and do they have girls dancing in the windows all year round or just during mardi gras? just wondering....

Sister, Sister of mine,

That was you on the news "Hum" beautiful girl you are I would of thought the weather was alittle to COOL for Mother Natures attire!!

??? was the grass really that slippery running through the park???

I would try some VERY HOT hot sause, it seems to work for me, of course I don't do those kind of things

And by the time this post of yours gets no more replys you will be dead from all of the remedies or laughed yourself back to the realm of the living, sending a SOFT HUG your way,

Love, Cerenity

Milk. It acts as a base to counteract, to a degree, the stomach acids and alcohol. May make you spew, but at least the poison is now on the outside, not the inside.

Also, if you feel very very very thirsty next morning, DO NOT DRINK ANY WATER. You have alcohol poisoning and are dehydrated. Drinking water will only serve to get you smashed all over again...although I guess it is cheaper than having to purchase hard liquors.

Yeah, what Ali said -- however, if you happen to think of it the night before, drinking a good 3 to 4 glasses of non-alcoholic beverage (water is best, but yuck) BEFORE you pass out helps alleviate both the dehydration and the headache and body aches associated with it.

Ali my dear, know that I adore you, but milk is not in any way a base (this is a very common misconception)... it is actually slightly acidic, and helps the pH in your stomach only by diluting the stronger acid with weaker acid (in short, water would do a better job as far as pH goes). It does, however, have a good amount of solid in it as liquids go (it is a suspension, after all), and therefore acts similar to food in absorbing alcohol and allowing you to digest it more slowly. If you're looking for an antacid, you could do the baking soda thing (it's actually about 3X as effective as the antacids you buy OTC), but why choke down that nasty stuff when there's Tums?

Caffeine before you pass out might help too, as it speeds your metabolism and allows you to un-alcohol yourself faster, but it is also a diuretic and will make the dehydration worse.

Vitamin C is good for colds, true. It is, however, also good for hangovers. Hangovers are caused, apart from dehydration, by your body metabolising the alcohol into chemicals which are poisonous to the body, thus impairing several functions. Blood sugar level and vitamin C levels are both depleted following alcoholic indulgence. A glucose drink is very good for regenerating the sugar levels quickly. Orange juice will give you a good hit of vitamin C as well as helping take away some of the stale carpet taste

BTW... in case you're wondering how I know all this, I studied chemistry at university before I became a tree surgeon

leave N'awlins before Mardi Gras? LOL...I'm with you Serenity...at my meeting this weekend, we celebrated Mardi Gras as well...in Dodge City no less! Can you imagine masks and cowboy boots with spurs? Ooops...

I have NO cure for a hangover, other than not to go there again! But don't worry, it will at least be over by the time MG comes around next, and you will have forgotten everything you swore off today....

Well..it seems everytime I have a hangover I have to get up at the crack of dawn and go to a dance rehersal. So as much as you really really dont want to, exercising will take your mind off it and get you into shape in the meantime (knocking off that beer belly) I recommend taking an advil or two beforehand tho!

serenity, I'll move to N.O. and be there to take care of you next year..I'll spread straw on the street in front of your house, take care that no one disturbs you. I'll do the cooking from the time Mardi Gras starts so you don't have to worry about it..also the laundry..helping the kids with homework..any other menial tasks that happen along. All YOU have to do is party and have a good time.

Oh and doreen? I am now the proud owner of EIGHT pairs of panties...AND? a humongous pair of plastic breasts!

And the boyfriend almost got in a fight with a Marine yesterday...but I was actually proud of him for once...he just looked at the guy and said, "You're not from here, are ya? You ever been in central lock up? They'll keep us BOTH for the full 72 hours allowed by law...and trust me? that place is already packed like a sardine can!" Fight averted. (see? there ARE SOME THINGS HE KNOWS---ah ha hah!)

I was going to mention that 24 hrs. does wonders all by itself when you are like that, but then it's sooooo hard to count up that far, right? Besides, you start over before the time runs out, no? Tsk, Tsk, Tsk . . .
(hey, it also messes up your calcium cycling, big time.)

and Colin . . . how do you manage to pass out on old carpet every time?

Colin? Methinks the "old carpet" reference was too close to the mark for you to be completely inexperienced in this area.

and folks...guess what works? PEDIALITE...yep, the stuff you give children to rehydrate them when they are ill with "the funny runny poo-poo's" (sorry, is what WE always called it...grin) easy on the stomach, and chock full of electrolytes...

Now...think I'm ready to do it again t'morrow. Happy Mardi Gras good poet people...and wanna see you all here next year! and B.Y.O.P. (bring yer own pedialite

Normally...I read all the responses. But I have the answer to this one so I am simply giving it (the only response I caught was Christophers...and it is probably better than mine--Ha!) But this works--I swear. Ibuprofen, water and Kava before going to bed. Repeat in the morning. But then again...I think kava is the cure for everything.
