That it does but damn I'm going nuts over here lol

My dad just had to have a procedure done to unblock an artery near his heart because of his smoking (he's smoked for 40 years) That opened my eyes.

I'm not giving up, I can beat this and I know I can but damn it is SO hard

Don't give in. It will be well worth the effort after you have beaten to damn things.

Ah...count the coin you are saving.

My brother watched my father suffer terribly from emphysema, due to smoking and a few other factors.  [Did you know placing your hands in cleaning solutions - unprotected - can allow the solution to leech through your hands into your system and cause terrible problems?]

Dad stayed on my brother to give up smoking.  He knew he should have - but did not.  In his mid 40's, my brother was also diagnosed with emphysema.  He has, at age 50, about 1/3 of his lung capacity left.

Age 50.

You are most definitely in my prayers, Jeff...you can do it.  I know you can.

Hang in there .... I smoked for 40 years and quitting was awful. But I did it and if I can do it, so can you.I've been 2 1/2 years smoke free!
Take it one hour at a time.
Thinking of you and sending support ... Maarti

My apologies for getting graphic, however, when you start to faulter, and feel like giving in, I would like you to think of my ex's cousin... He is 35 and had to use oxygen ALL the time, and cannot walk more than 50 fet or so without having to stop for a breather, and he cannot walk all the way up a flight of stairs without stopping. The doctor says that he will probably be dead before he is 40.
I quit many, many years ago, nad am glad I did... and you will be also.

Yeah, keep it up if that helps. It's a lot easier to fix teeth than lungs and arteries.

A friend of mine quit last year...she's a bartender and has to smell and see everyone around her enjoy...it was very hard...
she said she had secret weapons...
(she used the patch for one)...but she said what saved her was chewing on straws and swizzle sticks...lol...but also every time she craved a cig...she ate a lemon slice...
she said it killed the urge real quick...
Go buy a big ole box of straws...and a bag of lemons and think pucker power.

Good luck Jeff...we are rooting for you.

I'm curious as to what experiences you guys and girls have had ...

Anyone tried being hypnotized? If so, did it work?

And has anyone actually tried that new SkokeAway® product I've seen on every other late-night infomercial recently?

I might not be the best person to talk to, Jeff, because I quit cold, and never had a challenge. I went from 3 1/2 packs of Camels (filters) a day to nothing and never looked back. I never developed the physical addiction that most people do.
I tried it again after 4 years under a VERY stressful situation and hated the taste so much that I never tried it again.

some of those items advertised are just crutches and anyone I knew  who used hypnosis never kept off the cigarettes. Jeff, You have to WANT to quit to quit...

I started smoking when I was  20, and  stopped at 30 when I had a very bad flu and couldn't breath anyway from it.  I  eventually started again a little at a time  over a friend's who would smoke and offer me one...then I  felt bad bumming so I bought a  pack..eventually I  got laryngitis because of stress and  when I lost my voice for over a year and had to go to speech therapy to get it back ( retrain my vocal chords to adjust and touch...)and saw  others with voice boxes from  throat cancer...I stopped immediately.

Your taste buds will change over time..actually allowing everything to taste "sharper" so be prepared for that.

I made the mistake of eating twizzlers as something to hold  and replace the habit of cigarettes in my hand and mouth and ended up gaining 15 pounds in 2 weeks...well back then 15 pounds wouldn't hurt me..I was very thin from smoking which kept my metabolism on the go...so be sure to exercise to keep that from happening...take brisk walks and breathe deeper ..you will feel good about yourself.

I've also heard Wellbutrin counts quitting smoking (among many other things) as a natural by-product.

Three days is great, Jeff!!  I quit many years ago when my children told me they didn't want me to die.  Even then, I went out back and snuck one once in a while...finally I said, enough!  It wasn't easy!  My best to you!

You're doing great Jeff!
I quit 10 years ago as a birthday gift to myself...never smoked another one.
And, now I can't stand the smell of smoke on anyone.
I ate the strongest black jelly beans I could find.
You need something very strong flavoured...
I also chewed on those cinnamon flavoured hot toothpicks.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

A lot of community hospitals/health dept's offer smoking cessation programs, or you could talk with your PCP, tell him/her you are trying to quit, and get advice or scripts: Zyban, which is the same thing as Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin is generic), helps some, while the patch or gum helps others.  You need to find what works for you.  I strongly suggest the cessation program.  The nurse in me has spoken...Goodluck!

Well, it's been a little over 10 days now and I must confess, I did sneak a puff a few days ago. This is hard but I am beginning to win the battle, if not the war.
