hey y'all, i came up with a great way to prevent obsessional thinking. maybe i am the only one weird enough to spend way too much time worrying/thinking about something that is actually not a big deal. i let it get out of proportion. so now i came up with a plan: every time that annoying out-of-proportion thought pops up, i jab my wrist with a drawing pin. Not hard mind you, just a sort of "hey snap out of it already" ouch. then hopefully my brain will start to associate those thoughts with the pin jab and short circuit them before they reach my consciousness. then i wont be plagued by the thoughts anymore. do you think it is possible to control the mind like that? by associating something with discomfort you can decrease the frequency with which it occurs? wondered what y'all think about that? |

I tried that once. It didn't work for me. I'm not only obsessive/compulsive, I'm a masochist. ![]() |

Technically, it should work, because of Classical Conditioning. Whoo, go Pavlov! Of course, you have to remember to jab yourself every single time. Unofficially, I'm with serenity. ![]() Kielo |
