I truly understand the need for exploration - but I would rather they take the money and explore - you got it - cures. |

Dirt, rocks, and wind. Hrm...that does indeed look familiar....almost like the view towards the south one road away. ![]() |

I think it's incredible!!! MARS NO green men..thousands of Science Fiction stories debunked! LOOK at the pictures...it's MARS...why does this excite me? Am I nuts? From the responses here, I guess so. I think it's cool - the surface of Mars - not something we see everyday. Find joy in the little things..in the new things..in every thing! |

Guess I probably wasn't entirely clear. "Not so much from here," should have had more emphasis on here. It's been more than thirty years since we first put a man on the moon. Hell, I couldn't even legally drink yet when Neil Armstrong took that giant leap for mankind. How long do I have to wait for the other shoe to drop? Not so much from here. Let me go to Mars and take my own pictures! That would be something over which I'd REALLY get excited. ![]() |

I am still waiting to see if the martian chicks are actually green... lol I ahve to admit, though, to being excited about this whole "Brave New World" stuff... I watched the press conference they had today TWICE, just to be sure I didn'tmiss anything. Cause in my dreams it's always there |

Didn't watch the conferences, but please tell me that they didn't use that line from Aldous Huxley... |

In fact, I'll go with you. I'm going to take photography classes in college next fall and Mars would look good in my portfolio. |

Which quote, Ali?? "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad"??? lol OK,OK...I'll be good. Actually, they pretty much just stuck to the basic facts of the case, and about how they are "so excited" about this. They were acting like complete, and stereotypical Star Trek Convention attending, Head Gear having, Klingon speaking, costume wearing dorks who just saw their first naked Cardassian female. And before I got the letters.. I used to attend such conventions... I just never wore the headgear, or the costumes... and I couldn't tell you what a Klingon sounds like. Cause in my dreams it's always there |

Is that really Mars as in the Planet Mars?... you may call me a sceptic, but the picture looks like photos of parts of some barren pieces of land here on Earth tainted with a reddishly flavoured sky... But, if this is indeed Mars, it will be great in perhaps another 20 years when we could explore the place in person (probably with some NASA astronauts)... next thing to do would be to find life if it exists there... would be fun if the camera on sixwheels actually picks up some pix of 'men' and 'women' or even some weird 'seven eyed wood pecker' from Mars ![]() The only thing I have convinced myself of is Mars, the chocolate is not imported from Mars, the Planet. And that was not an easy argument! Regards Sudhir p.s. actually I am still not excited that we managed to send people up to the moon! Like Ron, I haven't got a chance to go there yet! now if they found oil up there on the moon, will we start drilling? |

Seven eyed woodpeckers? ROTFLMAO at Sudhir's reply. I was too buried this week with earthling dramas and haven't seen the pictures yet. Does AK Airlines go there yet??? Seriously, I never thought we'd really see any closeups. Guess I need to watch TV news today. |

Intrigued~ I save excitement for something I can touch~ ![]() However, it is astounding that we can 'see' space-places such as this with such clarity~ Astounding it is~ ~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, |

I watched a PBS special about the mission to MARS. At the beginning, it was anything but exciting. After watching what it takes to prepare for a mission (time and TOO much money) it became a bit more exciting. Afterwards, I sat down and thought about it. It is amazing to think that we are not the only lifeform. Not to mention the conditions of the other planets, the synchronization, etc. Pretty amazing. And people dare to say there is no God, hrumph! last statement was not to start a debate. Just a personal opinion. Failure isn't failure if a lesson from it is learned ~ KS |

I went back in the day-- took lots of pictures too. Darn lens cap. There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar. |

There are probably thousands of Treasure-hoards from Jupiter too waiting in martian time-capsules under that surface. Maybe it is possible a race even made it here and took back piece of earth before it could ever accomodate lifeforms. But Man should not be too hasty to set foot there until he has perfected sending machines--so he may get there very smoothly when he goes and take the due time to explore without be too endangered by technological inabilities to confront it. The technology shall be perfected - it may take many more decades yet, but not without tokens like this that show us we are getting there ![]() [This message has been edited by Essorant (01-10-2004 03:27 PM).] |
