While in a light sleep, I heard a scratching noise and knew immediately. I turned on the lamp and looked up, and yep, there it was. A two inch cockroach grappling his way across the "popcorn" ceiling like a mountain climber. JUST ABOVE MY HEAD. I blinked, looked again, and he was gone. The only thing worse than seeing a cockroach on the ceiling above your head is suddenly NOT seeing the cockroach on the ceiling above your head. (WHERE IS HE????)  sigh. I was just hitting REM cycle too. *pout* To hell with it. (C'mon roach, serenity has a shoe for you...) Coffee anyone?  |

She's SUCH A COMFORT, isn't she?  Tell her? I remember when my son was about six, hearing him SCREAM in the bathroom, I ran in there, terrified for his safety. I was puzzled when I saw nothing, er, unusual. When I asked him what was wrong, he stammered "cockroach" tearfully. And I laughed it off too. But I laughed harder when he said, "But MOM? IT LOOKED JUST LIKE JACK NICHOLSON."  <--kinda like THAT.  Hugs you two. Ya'll come see me in new orleans with our flying roaches, and ya won't be so smug. *chuckle* |

Eww cockroaches... In Grade 2 we had to do a ten-page report on an animal of our choice. Mine was the Cockroach. My teacher thought it was such a cool idea to do the cockroach that she overlooked my total lack of research and complete invention of the facts, and gave me the highest grade in the class. Wish that kind of stuff would work for University... Glad for your victory, Serenity... I'd say for messing with YOU, he was doomed to begin with... Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world. |

Way to go Karen!! Give him an extra bash just in case....lol. You know, here in Ontario, Canada we have been plagued the last couple of years with earwigs. EEEEWWW!!! They sort of look like a little cockroach...but they have pinchers on their butts!! If you step on one in your bare feet, the pincher(spell?) sticks in your skin and they scurry off with their bare butts exposed...hmmm...maybe there is a poem in there somewhere......where is my pen and paper....... ......"here's Johnny!" hugs, Chris[This message has been edited by Nightshade (06-23-2003 09:55 AM).] |

I was lucky the roaches i used tolive with had their turf and we had ours..they never ventured far from the kitchen so sleep wasn't a worry. However spiders..no that's my new nemisis and those bugers love my bedroom ceiling..i remember watching in fascination as one lowered itself onto my groggy waking face and me screaming like a girly girl..and yes the worst is when they dissapear..god..bugs..give me the skeeves |

Speaking of earwigs... I was down south (Way, way south) and a friend and I were sleeping over in this house... my friend woke me up at 7am, and says "Stacey, there's a bug in my ear..." Apparently she could feel it moving, and hear it, and it didn't leave until partway through that afternoon... Yuck, eh? The moral of the story is... be glad the cockroaches don't fit in your ear. And yes, roaches are gross... I had one walk across my hand once... I spent the next ten minutes rubbing my hand on my jeans trying to get the feeling to go away. That was gross too. It was all my grandma's fault. She wanted to see the bug exhibit... Kielo It's so good to be home... :) |

I was in Florida with my parents and we went down to the Keys in a motorhome (we did the tourist thing properly)... I saw a roach when I was trying to sleep... yeah I slept on the top bunk the entire time... *shudders* Anyone seen Joe's Apartment? Now there's some high classed entertainment lol It is said the Creator has taken a handful of South Wind and given each newborn Arabian the power of flight without wings |

Urban cowboys in Arizona ride 'sewer roaches' up and down the mountains here. I have a friend who chases 'em down with a vacuum cleaner and sucks 'em up...then he tosses them away - what he doesn't understand is that sometimes THEY STILL LIVE! |

Ok the only time I ever saw a cockroach was in a pet store and they were to feed snakes or some strange pet . . . but ants? OMG the big black SOB's that run really fast and live in your cereal box when you are eight. Yep, those mothers invite all their cousins over to your house for a feast of Count Chokula . . . Here we have these disgusting crawling centipede like things with feelers and I think they are called "White Fish" or something like that and they like to hide in damp places like maybe a wet towel with the laundry. "Gee, I think I'll toss this in the . . . aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" I despise bugs . . . When I was little my uncle told me that ants can crawl into my ears and lay eggs. I am so serious. Maybe that is why I have insomnia? The only bugs I like are lightning bugs (speaking of I havent seen those since I was little) and ladybugs. Here, if a ladybug graces your house - it is meant as good luck. Oh, and I also have this thing with spiders: One time I was lying on the couch and kept itching the back of my head by my ear for like an hour. I get up and walk upstairs . . . da deh da . . . and go to itch again, felt a bodylike thing and violently started jumping around screeching and flipping my hair over like a frigging basketcase screaming for my sister and hopping around the whole time just to look at the place where my hand flipped and see this big fat hairy daddy spider crawl away . . . ewwwwwwwwwwwww it was in my hair for an hour!!!!! ROFL... It is that time of the year, sen... 12 months a year, right? LOL I killed one the other night that I could have saddled... but my saddle's at my Dad's... and my apartment has a 20 pound limit on pets. *G* I can't help laughing at my sister, though... she's singing those "letting go blues" with my nephew going to college... and wasn't impressed with the boys' dorm he'll be living in. I reminded her that she hasn't been in his room in 5 years because she can't GET INTO his room... and this is the same boy who... when I was moving into a hell's pit in New Iberia... announced to me... ever so cheerfully... that I'd never be lonely cause I had so many roommates! LOL |

Good gads...it just dawned on me how LONG it has been since I last even thought about an earwig. Nasty little creatures...just as bad in my book as cockroaches. And trying to pass cockroaches off as what sounds so harmless as a palmetto bug [cockroaches on steroids] is just not fair in my book. Call 'em what you will, I still don't hold open house for 'em. |

my mom found a cockroach climbing on her face once around 3 in the morning, she didnt realize until she smacked it away and turned on the light, but just to imagine...RATS are scary,too. I've stepped on one before.... ugh...it was...SQUISHY... tonia |

Once, I felt this violent itch in my pants, and then it moved up my back, and I screamed (I was at a friend's house) and said "there's something in my shirt!" I took my shirt off, and it was a fuzzy little bumblebee. actualy it was a huge bumblebee. What scares me the most is wasps.  I just had to read you cockroach poem, Karen, and then Wind had this link there and I just had to come to this thread...now I'm going to be looking for stupid cockroaches or spiders or some kind of bug all night. HeeHee!! Ugh!! I hate those stupid flying cockroaches, Kare...the ones that fly in as soon as a door is open, if they get a chance. Seems like Florida is a good breeding place for those big ole suckers.... But now, Suthern, I haven't seen one that I could put a saddle on yet....LOL Can you imagine that? HeeHee!!! LMAO this whole thread is just hilarious xD Not too long ago, my mom thought she saw a cockroach skitter across the room when she lifted a blanket...Turned out to be a rolled up Reese's wrapper  I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man. |
