Curvature From point to bounds beyond imagination, Our universe expands, or so they say; A subject due our somber contemplation, From point to bounds beyond imagination. But if sufficient matter's in creation It surely all comes crashing back one day From point to bounds beyond imagination. Our universe expands, or so they say. |

Pete, That's three for three--or is it, "Tri" for "Tri"? Enjoyed each one. As I said before, Einstein would be proud. Sid |

hi the thing i like in particular about this poem is the structure. the repetition of lines reinforces the paradox at the end of the poem. i also like the slight suggestion of the end of everything. the wording is sligtly difficult, but it made me have to read a few times which in turn gave me more time to consider its meaning. it's refreshing to read a poem on this subject that is more analytical than emotional. |

Thanks everyone for reading and replying. Sid got it right, of course. In fact, it was at his prompting that I posted it anyway. There is no hidden message here. It speaks of the big bang theory of the creation of the universe. At the rate it is expanding, it appears that it will continue expanding forever. But it is known that there is some invisible matter between the galaxies, the amount and mass of which is yet to be determined. If there is enough of it then gravity will eventually overcome the speed due to the original explosion and the expansion will begin to slow, coming to a complete stop and ultimately the universe will begin to collapse back into itself. All this is yet to be proved, either way. Thanks, Pete |

I though this was worth bumping. Um, is it possible that the triolet gave you the ability to express a certain doubt in present day cosmology? |

Thanks for the bump Yejun. I had all but forgotten about these. This was the first of a series that I really enjoyed writing. I guess I got on sort of a roll, or rut as the case may be, there for a while. To answer your question, I do wonder about the substance of the universe. Not that it makes any real difference except in cosmological time but I do wonder whether it will continue expanding forever or someday crash back into that infinitely dense point. If it does, will that be matter or pure energy. Live long and propser. |
