Beware the Little Child Mind I often wonder what prevails In a little child mind So small and frail and innocent No malice does it find It only seeks the playfulness Lighthearted fun and jest And pleasure in the warmth and love In those that it knows best It’s always searching every corner Discovering the new It knows no limitations Though experiences are few But don’t be fooled by innocence A little child is wise He understands so much more than You and I surmise He may not understand each word That we adults discuss But knows the language of the heart Of love and care and trust You cannot fool a little mind With phrases in disguise So be aware what you display In front of little eyes Fits of anger, humiliation Rudeness or disgrace Can be engraved forever On a little child’s face He learns consideration And understands respect He imitates these qualities Much more than you’d expect Beware the little child mind No greater treasure will you find No hate or malice of any kind Is born into a child mind Elizabeth Santos |

Beautifully written. My kind of poem. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

Another lovely poem, Liz! You describe the mind of a child beautifully. Love and hugs, Lizzie ![]() "Poetry is the true expression of my soul, it is my ultimate means of communication. It is my rainbow of delight." |

Liz, This is so simple yet so profound, so much we take for granted, not realizing what impact we have on those around us, especially our children. This is SO well written and your point is WELL made. Thanks, Dennis :^) |

Wise words, Elizabeth. They do 'know' so much more than we assume they do, don't they? And they remember it all! Denise |

Liz--This is a wonderful poem!! It's amazing how much little ones "see" and "know." They are so innocent, yet so discerning. Thanks for sharing this one, Liz!! "Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare |
