Deep in the tranquil forest green Lies the shell of the Quill and Rose A pub known here for a hundred years With a story everyone knows The owner built his business For his son, Robert LeBlayne For twenty years he sold his brews Saved all coins that he did gain When Robert’s youth was over His father bade him take the reins But Robert’s heart was stolen By the wind that caress the plains Poor Robert said he had a poet’s soul Claimed verse was his heart’s desire His father, raged and in his anger Threatened retribution dire Robert’s sister, Gwendolyn Begged for the pub as her own So Robert left the forest glen His inheritance he’d disown Years passed gently for Gwendolyn She wed and bore a brood Her husband nightly drank his fill As Gwendolyn earned their food Her son, a hearty laughing lad Took charge of the pub when she died Under his cheerful direction Gold coin was plentifully supplied One rainy night in the forest dark A knock was heard at the door A gnarled old man, a wanderer. Sought shelter from the downpour He drank and ate, and talked a bit Weaving tales of magic places afar And that night the cheery barkeep Let him sleep behind the bar Morning dawned fair and dry In the forest in the glen The old man lay behind the bar Never to roam again The barkeep found a diary Verses and stories told the tale Of young Robert LeBlayne Who chose verse over ale They buried him next to Gwendolyn And made a book of his verse and prose And to this day, you can read it here The book titled “The Quill and Rose” |

What an ending for the story! I hoped it would end happily, and it did. Couldn't wait to finish reading it. ------------------ Nail to the mast her holy flag, Set every threadbare sail- And give her to the god of storms, The lightning and the gale! -Oliver Wendell Holmes [This message has been edited by Elizabeth (edited 12-13-1999).] |

This is an amazing tale Lady deVine, well woven with words but I expect no less. The tale itself is entrancing indeed. ![]() ------------------ Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~.
