A voice is raised a bullet flies A country wins a young dies A flashing knife returns to sheath For one spent life a broken wreath The family weeps the leaders scorn His only sin was to be born Field where crimson blood flows down And mingles quietly with the ground Field where inhuman men are praised Where sorrow death and anger raised The field that’s arm in arm with strife Has no respect for any life This field I talk about is war And when this field exists no more And all this death and sorrow gone The human race will live as one Jon Mewett Today as most days I watched images of war from all over our planet on the television. Although these images were fairly graphic I find it difficult to portray the utter horror. Some things are better said simply. I understand people find themselves in awful circumstances but when are we going to LEARN? |

Jon you touched my heart with this poignant poem. I too ask, when, if ever, will we learn??? ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Black Eagle Oglala Sioux holy man |

Terribly sad poem....when will humanity find other ways to solve conflict. Ways that don't involve taking millions of innocent lives. Communication is so so so so lacking in the world today. Your poem expresses this horrific topic very well! Love and hugs, Lizzie |

As always, I am moved by your words. Only when all people think of others before themselves will we be at peace. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

Jon, You raise a valid question, WHEN WILL THIS MADNESS END? Unfortantely, no end is in sight, thanks for your thoughtful verse. Dennis :^) |

Jon, Your words are so moving. There is no end in sight to all of the madness that our world encompasses, but with God's strength, all is renewed. I'm so sorry for your terrible experiences. God bless, and good luck in life. Hope, Alicia A. Renzelman |

Jon, What a perfect picture you paint of the terrible thing called war that humans around the world partake in. I try to think positively, but I don't have a lot of confidence the mankind will ever learn. Sheila ...the earth and myself are of one mind. I have to agree, ... I don't think that we will ever leave war behind us .. Superb writing here, Jon ...... "Man is complex .... he makes deserts bloom and lakes die." Dr. Laurence J. Peter |
