I was Riley Jackson. A boy of summer they used to say. I lived a dream, The dream of all little boys. I played on the field, sat on the bench, smelled the hot dogs and beer. I even played in October, side by side with the greatest to ever play. I hit the hit, I caught the catch, The cheers were for me. I wore the ring proudly. Then I met her and, slowly, the game didn't seem so important. I knew, the first time I saw her, she was the one. I left the game for something better. They used to say, "You could have been the best." I'd look down at my boy and he'd say, "You are dad." I spent the rest of my life with her, never missing the game. Before I died I got to see my boy play in October, I saw my grandchildren, I wondered "what if". What if I had never left the game? ...I never would have found happiness. I coached my great-grandson's team in the summer of '63, I left the diamond just like I found it. |

This is a great testament to the important things in life... It's also quite a wonderful extended metaphor. We welcome you here at Passions, and I for one look forward to seeing more of your work. Check your email |

I really like how you bring what's important into perspective... MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU, MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND Irish Blessing |
