A Day with Reanna |

The little one comes bounding in and man, she's ready to play. Please don't make me be the child, I think and silently pray. But the Lord, He has a sense of humor; likes on occasion to poke fun, this day He does not answer my prayer and I become the little ones son. "You must take me to the doctor son. I've hurt my leg you see." But when we arrive for medical care the doctor turns out to be me. As I begin to rub her leg I ask about her pains. It's her legs, back, head and neck. "They all hurt", she explains. She eventually tires of this game and thinks of something new. I now become a floating boat with she and the dog my crew. So I sit "putt-putting" on the floor buried beneath pillows and toys. "Nana, boats don't sound like that, so please don't make that noise." She could continue this game for hours but it is I who needs a break. Afterall my body is not four years old and only so much of this floor can I take. My sweet Reanna Lee keeps me young with an imagination free and wild. For on the days she visits me, I'm not nana, I'm once again a child. I stiffly struggle to my chair, and she quickly snuggles in my lap. I savor her scent, the warmth she emits, and I drift quietly into MY nap. This describes the events of yesterday with my grandaughter. She's my sunshine, my pride, joy, the keeper of my heart and my well of eternal youth. Sounds like that kids got one hell of a nana. Also sounds like a chip off the creative block. The fun of all this bubbles through. Great. Jon By their fruits you shall know THEM |

This poem is delightful! I love children...they are so much fun. And living in their world for awhile each day is the best cure in the world for "adult-itis"! Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allen Poe |

Thank you all for taking the time to read and comment on my poem. It brought me a lot of joy to relive the day! StarrGazer - I love the adventures she takes me on too! Gene - letting my "childomine" come out is what keeps my life from becoming stale!!! Jon - it's easy to be creative when it's someone or something your're passionate about. Being with her is great fun. Tiring but fun!! Being with her brings me so much joy! Your're right Gary, living in a childs world, even for just a while is a great way to rejuvenate and forget the stresses of adulthood. childomine--Wow! This is wonderful; a delightful poem superbly written. If you haven't thought about it already, I suggest that you make a copy of this for her (to be laminated and/or framed) so that when she gets older she can relive these days with you. "Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare |
