It's 11:30 in the morning, it's time to leave reality Co-workers and I venture into the Pennsylvania wilderness for an hour walk A chance to forget all worries and stresses that a normal day of work can bring For one hour, I am back in colonial America an hour outside of colonial Philadelphia Walking along the rocky dirt path along the Chester Creek, I see stone foundations of cold houses that were used long ago The hilly terrain of the Pennsylvania countryside proves tedious and worthwhile Every bend reveals new and awe-inspiring scenes Huge stone houses set on the tops of hills give a focal point after following the soaring hawk The sun feels comforting as we walk through and around barren hay fields Spring is on the way, soon the grass will begin to grow A little past two miles into our journey, we are quickly reaching our halfway point Images of the way people used to live skate across my mind We follow horse-marked trails, some of the markings create some humorouse conversation and by all costs must not be stepped in Before motorized vehicles or any of the modern day conveniences, people walked miles as we were out of necessity We walk out of leisure, I thank God to have this oppurtunity We talk and bond as the miles flow by us I feel thankful to work where I do I feel thankful to work with my co-workers My thoughts quickly turn to the dog that is attempting to chase us, he almost nips my behind We come to find that his name is Eddie The birds are returning, the squirrels and chipmunks are reappearing The sound of the creek is relaxing as we jump from rock to rock to get across The strong power of nature is evident as we still see the effects of Hurricane Floyd which flooded the region 7 months prior Our dumbstruck gazes are broken only by someone slipping into the creek Luckily for him, we cross at a shallow part, and his pants are only wet to the knees We venture back up the hill to civilization I return to my desk refreshed and relaxed In one hour, I've gained one of the most satisfying accomplishments for the entire day I am happy |

I can relate to this! Pennsylvania sure has some beautiful spots! It's a shame we can't derive as much pleasure from our work as we can from a walk out in nature since we spend so much more time at work. Great poem! Denise |

Mrobi, I felt as if I had accompanied you on that walk. What a wonderful way to spend a break time from work. No doubt it is so refreshing, as to be able to stresslessly face any challenge or annoyance at the job. Sheila ...the earth and myself are of one mind. This feels like a great outburst of gratitude. From one who's thankful and can taste good fortune. So good Jon |
