The hues of green and brown present a natural beauty. The birds in song with the cricket's hum really do enchant me. The stillness in the woods suggests an intruder's near. The deer stand motionless, keeping watchful eye determining any need for fear. The rustling of the trees as the breeze whisks through the air, makes a melodious echo as you're encircled by them there. The woodpecker is at work, the raccoon scurries by, as busy as can be. The red tailed hawk soars in flight while the alligator basks on the fallen tree. There is nary a sign of humans or the destruction they create. Only the sights and sounds of nature as God intended for it's state. |

This is beautiful Sheila. It sounds so peaceful, a place where you let me run away to, even if only for a moment. |

Sheila, I like this picture you paint. With all the poems about love and hate, It's nice to see one about the love for your state. ~Gene p.s. I'm trying to write one about my state, but I don't know if I can put it into words. |

Wow, it feels like I just got my feet wet crossing a stream amid the trees...you use imagery so well here, Sheila! Beautiful poem! I've always loved the woods, felt comfortable in the cities...I'm lucky I was raised this way, that I can appreciate nature a lot but still put up with the dense population centers humans like to put up...thanks for reminding me that this lil' dragon needs to go on another camping trip (and thanks for the read ,too! ) Little Spyro T. I've been in the woods many times Sheila, and never saw as much as you. Very nice picture. |

SasiKat~ Reminds me of my wonderful outings in the Ocala National Forest ... or my own area of the Green Swamp. Both abundant with the wildlife you describe. Lovely descriptive images you write of. Serene and beautiful. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

A thank you to all of you for your comments on this poem. Marge, funny you should mention the Green Swamp as this was written when I was on the Rancho Bonito property with my boyfriend. He speaks of the Green Swamp and it is not far from here. ...the earth and myself are of one mind. The measure of the land and the measure of our bodies are the same........... SasiKat~ My goodness what a small world, huh? I live on Green Swamp Road at the northern beginning of the Green Swamp in central Florida.! I believe I know just where the place is that you speak of. Thank you for mentioning it. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
