BROTHERS REMEMBERED The road had been long, filled with hard work and no little pain, But the end had justified it all he thought. He stood there, filled with a pride he could hardly contain, Proud of what he had become, and the dream he had caught. That college campus seemed far away, almost unreal, The people and things once so important, now a distant past. They would never know how it was to feel, This pride that flowed within him,For a new spirit had been cast. The parade ground held hundreds like him, all standing tall, Each wondering if he would stand the test, for tomorrow they shipped out. There were no doubts as to where, for we had answered the call, Our brothers waited in Korea, that's what we were all about. The air held a haze, it was ghostly, almost sureal, The lines that moved almost as one, silent it seemed. I'll have to remember this day he thought, and how I feel, The helmets, bayonets flashing in the sun, like something dreamed. That day was almost fifty years ago, but in my mind I still see, Those men, those lines, in my soul, that day will never die. For we still watch, with our brothers of all our wars and history, And we stand with pride, as our new brothers go proudly by. For in that ghostly haze, and among those who march today, Are the spirits of those who fought on beaches, and in jungle green. In the frozen hills and rocky ridges of Korea, where we had to pay, It matters not where or when, the price is high, for that title, Marine. bill bussey 94 |

Well, what I see in that haze is bravery and pride, personified...great work on this, Bill! Little Spyro T. Dragon |

Great tribute to your brothers, Bill. It's hard to believe it was that long ago, but memories are always recent. ~Gene |

Another excellent poem Bill. This gave me shivers. God bless you and all of America's soldiers. |
