Out on the ice that he calls home. a great, white bear begins to roam. He tests the breezes with his nose and strikes a sudden, watchful pose. He's hungry and is now aware that somewhere, there are seals out there, so where their breathing holes are found,he'll watch and wait, without a sound, but if he's in the mood for fowl, the sea-bird rookeries he'll prowl and even lemmings, brown and small, he'll hunt and eat them, fur and all. The female polar bear will find a southern slope, with den in mind and dig a hole, her cubs to hold. Deep in the winter's dark and cold. They're born so tiny. They grow fast and when the springtime comes at last, she paws a door and they go forth to learn about the frozen north. Betty Lou Hebert |

To the Inuit, the "Great Bear" is the most feared of spirit beings, for they hunt man. Good read. "I hate quotes, they suck!" |

Thanks everyone for reading and commenting. I have always been fascinated by polar bears......from a distance! I had a very close encounter with a black bear last summer and he was much smaller than a polar bear, but the "fright factor" was definitely there! Betty Lou Hebert |
