I long for the skill of an artist, To paint like the great Raphael. To show as would Michelangelo, A beauty that words cannot tell. I watch as she bends o'er her baby, With a love that is out of this world, For a child more dependent and helpless, Than when in her womb it was curled. She could have posed for "The Madonna," Her profile as pure as a saint. The utter devotion she has to this child, Not even a genius could paint. But I must strive with inadequate words, To picture this mother and child; Show beauty so sweet and ethereal, The world like I am, is beguiled. Can a love such as this, be captured in a painting or words written down? This purest passion ever created, Is what makes the world go around. Joyce, I think your words express the devotion of mother to child very beautifully. Perhaps for a portrait such as this, poetry is a better medium, for it allows the imagination to capture what a brush never could. To love another person is to see the face of God. |

Just a beautiful poem Joyce. If only all mothers were so devoted! Betty Lou Hebert |
