      Destroyed on TV
I read a book that said a lot
A lot of points to ponder you see.
I read a book I enjoyed
That was destroyed on TV.

One point it made was clear,
Was clear about his love.
He put her on a pedestal
Very, very high, above.

The main character could see the future,
The future of his Love and of gloom.
The book of which I speak,
Was simply titled Dune.

He dreamed his love would give the birth,
The birth, he thought, he understood all.
That during the moment of childbirth
He did not SEE that his Moon did fall.

It spoke words of wisdom
Words of wisdom you see.
I read a book I enjoyed
That was destroyed on TV.

Yes, this can certainly happen.  Sometimes the book and the tv story don't even resemble one another. Good write.  Joyce

I agree, Melton. I really like the "Dune" saga myself.

Hey, there was a topic in discussions about this: "Worst movies....Who took your favorite book and ruined it.

Dune got "honorable mention". lol
Here's what I had to say about the subject over there:

"I don't think any movie has ever really lived up to the books I have read first.

The characters we create in our minds as we read from the written page, are as individually unique in character as ourselves. They cannot be duplicated elsewhere. This is the phenomenon of the written word. The creative manifestation of human thought through imagination. Furthermore, the writer of books is limited only by the "budget" of that same imagining."

Thanks.

Joyce, Thank you. I've seen several movies that distort the point.

Coyote, Thanks. This book was more than a love story. I just got a kick out of how the visionary missed the falling moon.

To be honest, I have never read or seen Dune, but I have certainly seen plenty of good stories ruined when brought to the screen. It can be very aggravating, can't it?

Good point, my friend.
They missed it in the movie.

Aye...good point there!  Most of the time, I just watch the movies made from books to see what doesn't match up or what was left out.
Good subject and good point...that was left out of the movie entirely!

I've known this kind of dissapointment....I especially hate it when they completely change the ending...ugh

I agreee on your point and in general. It drives me nuts when a unique story is squished into the hollywood mold.

Read and loved the book... and the saga overall for the first three books.  Haven't seen the movie... doubt I will.  About the only movie I ever saw that I thought held up to the book was To Kill A Mockingbird featuring Gregory Peck.  But that was at a time when movie makers really tried to pay attention to the sorce of the story.  Your work here hit the mark.

Red-Feather, HW can't always re-create what our minds have created.
inot2B, The movies was DUMB, I agree. Don't knock it, till you READ it.
Andrew, Good idea, don't waste your time on the HW version. Your mental movie is the best.
Thanks,
Melton

Nicely done. I know how it feels to have a book destroyed in the tv/movie screen. At least we have the ability to read to be able to appreciate it in some form rather than no form at all.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.
