RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... ...rrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Boats are passing, slow as snails, Some like salmon, others like whales; All sailing out into open seas And some are aided by ocean breeze. Fishing ship that tows a net Spreads it out, some fish to get, One guy standing who was helping out Saw a fish on deck, just flopping about-- No one knows how it'd gotten there, Couldn't have just come out of thin air; Then again, it couldn't jump on board Unless a good twelve feet it soared! The guy walked over to investigate How the fish could compensate For the distance from the deck to sea, And how from its watery world was free. As soon as the man arrived on the scene, The fish let off a blinding gleam-- All of a sudden, there on the floor Was a sight that made the man's eyes sore; A giant swordfish, lean and strong, Its skin so sleek, its body long, Its color was as blue as the sky... And all of a sudden... It said "Hi!" As you'd expect, the man was afraid, A very strange event this made; But he knew that's not how he should behave, So he strode forward and tried to be brave. "Hello," he replied, in a friendly way, The fish asked if he could stay. The man's response was "Sure, why not?" However, that was not his thought... On passing by the other men, He checked the fish again and again-- No one else seemed to know That it was there; he didn't show! Late that night, at dinnertime The man and fish sat together to dine-- Odd that a denizen of the seas Would settle for overcooked chicken and peas! The man put his arm around fish to feel His likeness right now, instead of a meal... It's fortunate that the man never thought Again of the meal that he could've got From killing the fish that he'd befriended From that night on, and also defended. For a while after that, the two were best friends And shared so much until their ends. This odd relationship was sure a winner-- 'cause one of them had resisted a dinner! A little thing I wrote all of a sudden...well, I figure it has something to do with seafood, anyway! Oh, I'm being garrulous--welcome to the Pub, smallgrin! We hope to make that grin of yours a little (or a lot) wider! Hope you like it here, a lot of us do! Enjoy your stay! Little Spyro T. Dragon |
