2 0 0 1 a dragon’s odyssey (well, not quite) And here we are, yet once again We gather ‘round and wait, ‘til when The clock in faraway Times Square Strikes the hand of midnight there. A few time zones more to the west, A little dragon’s in unrest As he watches ticks go by Now, time does not seem to fly. Finally, the moment passed— The year 2001 at last! But what is different, now and here Than what occurred just yesteryear? No laser guns or flying cars, There are no people now on Mars, Yet we don’t see this least bit strange That there has been such little change. “Oh well,” the little dragon said And wandered slowly off to bed. He pulled the covers up real tight And wished himself a small goodnight. * * * Sometime in the night, there came A package with the dragon’s name Written on the side, and read, “A very happy year you’ve led, Now make this one good as before— Or maybe just a little more.” The morning came, the sun did rise, The little dragon rubbed his eyes And saw a package by the door And read who it was from…and for. He hurriedly unwrapped it so He wanted oh so bad to know What it was, the big surprise— Despite its dinner plate-like size. The little dragon stared in awe At what in front of him he saw— What else but a halo, golden pure It held his gaze in its tenure. A note beside it was addressed From Up High, to all the rest Of the Corner Pub and Passions too, “Happy be this year anew. “You’ve all been blessed and gifted so You shine as bright as this halo. You all deserve one, guaranteed— But there really is no need. “You already show it in your word, No further proof need now be heard. To the Corner Pub and Passions, too, Happy be this year anew.” This little dragon says the same as what’s in this note, and believes it to the fullest!
