CornerStone

Election farce of year 2000
run to courts, grab that beeper!
Never mind pre-existing law, you see
excuse me! the bull residue is getting deeper!

Law of the land is plain
upholders try and make it so.
Lawyers ooze from the woodwork
each side striking compatible blows.

Founding principles gone awry
illustration of which, made sharp and clear.
Court-full of lawyers deciding our President?
our framework, not working...I fear.

We the people- another sad joke?
as attorneys wearing political masks decide.
What have we given away in our democracy
is it indeed rotten, has it died?

cho: Is it dimpled, hanging or chad supreme?
Wash our hands, let the courts decide!
Never mind, “we the people”....
perhaps; “Sue them”, Paul Revere should have cried?
Maybe ole George should have lied,
or Jefferson freed his slaves.
Do you think it was all for naught?
Are our solders... ashamed in their graves?
Should we all be ashamed of this mockery
this joke, we all have borne?
Shall we have any honest honor left
adrift without our CornerStone?

Seems to this innocent observer
Florida law precise in it’s black and white.
Yet, the legals may change to suit...interpret
keep after it till, the winner gets it right.

Well. perhaps we shall see an end
once upon our republic tainted.
Could be this so-called supreme version
can not decide from corner into it has painted.

Or the satirists could be accurate
just simply leave the matter undecided.
Draw a line down the middle of the White House
carry on with government divided!

yes, we are all tired of the bickering..one point though..no state may pass a law in violation of the constitution as interpreted by the supreme court..that's why they are involved..as soon as they rule, we should move to a solution quickly..may the fastest talking, slickest liar win..lol

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Hi Bleeding,

I am not one for getting in to these kind of discussions but I love your poem and you made some very GOOD points thank you for posting it.

Bravo!   I'm sorry, but I don't think that this election is quite what our founding fathers had in mind for the future.  It just plain disgusts me.  Well done!!!

lol-seems as usual my timing is off a tad...
what i was really trying to illustrate, i
guess...was the law was on the books to cover the situation and the "good ole legal club" chose to ignore it and run to the courts to get their own ways...to have an
elected offical determined by the legal system seems to me to be against everything we were ever taught that America stood for.
