Old Timers Circus came to town, the other day flyers and excitement all around. Streets a buzz with conversation babies scared of painted clowns. Barbershop preaching evil devils workshop those idle hands. The big top tent went up edge of town, on some county land. Coffee shop littered with strangers locals complaining over at the bank. Biggest thing to hit our community since we got our new water tank. All the kids stirred up, agitated as opening night creeps nearer. Calliope music heard for miles boy scouts keeping traffic clear. A hush in the canvas house as ringmaster takes center stage. The show a marvel, a wonder collective gasp, as big cats uncage. Horsemanship and flying trapeze elephants doing tricks and such. Cotton candy, hot dogs and soda mama’s warn, “Don’t eat too much!” Ringmaster taking his final bow the lights come back up to clear. Friends and neighbors applaud youngsters all whistle and cheer. Circus came to our little town just the other day. Shaking of gray head with realization twenty years have passed away. bleeding... "Tis ink coming from his arm, Captain!" |

you are a master of the simple pleasures and nostalgia..this was another great example of that..a literary Norman Rockwell. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

It always shocks me when something reminds me of how many years have flown by. Lovely poem, as always, Daniel! Denise |

This was great.......im quite young still.....so the "time goes by fast" thing hasn't hit me just yet. I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them! |

Daniel~ Oh my ... the memories came rushing back. The circus would set up in the field right across from our home ... and the excitement would begin. Time flies ... and so do the memories of the flying trapeze artists. I remember also seeing the greatest clown on earth, Emmett Kelly, doing his wonderful routine of silent entertainment. This was a wonderfully nostalgic piece of work. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
