THE CLAN

I often wonder, though not at great length,
What is there about it, that has such strength.
What is it that captures you so complete,
That not even in death, will it know defeat.

For fifty years I have been a member of this clan,
That took a boy, and moulded him into a man.
Taught him pride, duty, honor, obedience, faith to a fault,
This is the core of the clan, it's why it's taught.

At times I cursed it, and myself for being a member,
But the spirit of the clan, makes bad times hard to remember.
And though at times I grumbled and griped, I wasn't sincere,
For within my heart, I wanted to be here.

The clan is not a thing or place, it is a state of mind,
The only one's who understand it, are other's of your kind.
You don't try and explain to those you feel are inferior,
For you have been taught,and believe, you are far superior.

There is a price though, but your proud to pay,
For once a member,there you stay, till your dying day.
As for me, to all that I will attest,
Carved beneath my name will be, here lies a Marine, at rest.

your emotions are very nicely expressed here...its nice to see the pride and the feeling of commraderey stays with you. My uncle was a Marine, I'll never forget how awesome he looked in his dress blues, stepping off the plane for the first time back home on a leave. thank you for bringing that memory back up for me.

A tightknit clan - a second family - a state of mind forged from the necessity to trust and lean on one another. Very special to you I see!
