                  School Musical

Early auditions
Tears and triumphs all around
Casting the school play

Nightly rehearsals
Learning choreography
Fearing disaster

Backstage in chaos
Props and costumes are misplaced
Last dress rehearsal

Nerves heard in voices
Jam-packed auditorium
On opening night

Sparkly-eyed young girls
Quietly singing along
Dreaming of stardom

Tall lanky young men
Voices unreliable
Sing tender love songs

Knowing the whole script
Proud parents bearing flowers
Giving rave reviews

Wistful young extra
Hearing others' accolades
Hoping for next year

Practical jokesters
Ad-libbing inside humor
Final performance

Dropped program inserts
Echoes of standing ovation
Empty theater

To love another person is to see the face of God.
- Les Miserables

   this is awesome!
you have such a talent for
   putting these little ditties
   together to tell a story...
   and what wonderful snapshots
   you've created in my mind...
i feel like i was there.
   i love this!!

KCS~
What lovely memories you've penned.
An event to send the spotlights searching.
Wonderfully done.

Vicky - Thank you, my friend.   It filled some time while waiting for the curtain to open on the sixth performance.  Wish you could have been there.  hugs

Marge - *bowing on cue*  Thank you for the standing ovation.  School musicals are a big tradition here, and the whole town comes out for them.  Glad you enjoyed this.

Jon - Thank you also for your applause.

All three of you are favorite poets of mine, and I appreciate your comments greatly.

kcsgrandmother,
you just brought a new dimension to my concept of senryu..i never would have thought that one could compose an entire story(and such a vivid one at that) using the unique 5-7-5 syllable count....

thanx for the inspiration..like the others, i applaude for you
