sailing with the multitude
wherever they lead
my heart dreams of
different waters

to sail alone
on a sea of dreams
to a distant shore
all my own

my heart begs me, 'go'
but my fear is too great-
should my craft sink
and i be off course
surely i will perish
alone

so i remain trapped
in a convoy of vessels
making no waves
of my own

perhaps someday
i will find the courage
to forge the course
known only by
my heart

I like this one, Vicky, and I'm glad to see you posting here.     That is quite a scary proposition, striking out in your own direction.  If you manage to do it, let me know how it turns out, will you?

Vicky,
I takes courage to follow our hearts lead against reason and leave that which is comfortable or familiar.  Good poem!

You said this was old?
Well, in this case, it's an ancient treasure.   Beautiful, beautiful poem, reminds me a lot of a song on the Titanic soundtrack, "Hymn to the Sea"...you should listen to it, it would fit your poem perfectly...even though it doesn't need any more improvement!

a lovely oldie but goodie, Vicky..I identify with this closely as I have always been somewhat of a loner.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

not directly relevant but this made me think of something i have read "There is no point in planning for tomorrow for we never know what tomorrow will bring".....

perhaps we avoid planning because we are reluctant to follow our heart as this poem suggets...

i liked the sentiments here and am glad you posted this oldie

I am so glad you decided to post this gem...I love it.

To sail alone on a sea of dreams
To a distant shore all my own.

How beautiful!
