Poking, pressing...
some gentle with cold instruments,
others with morgued souls...
most with warm wallets,
their wads neatly compressed.

Reduced to their first-year residencies,
doctors recite statistics.
You, the sterile textbook specimen,
the clear and concise demographic chart.
Your veins converge; the upswing curve
representing alarming rates of increase;
under duress, will radioactively thrive
while your will teeters between the quit
and the fight.

The doctors, however, will lose this one.
Having yet to discover humanity,
they treat you as a stroke of their genius
and an interesting read.

Ouch!  Looks like this is one exam the doctor flunked!  I hope you find a better one whose heart is warmer than the wallet!

Good Morning kcsgrandma. . .
This wasn't about me personally. After talking to friends, they feel their health care providers leave the caring out of the equation sometimes.

Yes, somewhere along the line some physicans seem to forget that there is a live, warm body with feelings under their hands...well done.

On the contrary, Chanson, I think writing in a snit can actually lead to some pretty good poetry and I think this is very good!

I agree denise, some of my best writings come when I'm in a snit or really upset about something...it like the energy of the emotions forces the thoughts out with clarity.

Denise. . . Thank you

Lady. . . Thank you again

You both may be right. The fire fueled by a spark of high emotion most often does give that punch to a poem.
