The Greatest Words

The greatest thought I ever heard
Was spoken in the truest word
Not from the mouth of someone great
Not president, nor candidate

The finest words came not from sage
Nor from a book of weathered age
The person was not old or wise
Nor winner of a Nobel prize

The words were spoken out of truth
From one still in the thralls of youth
Not from the mask of sheer pretense
But from the heart of innocence

More deeply felt than prophesies
Or words of great philosophies
The phrase I was about to hear
Touched soft upon a mother’s ear

Like lyrics of a written psalm
The simple words, “I love you, Mom”

Elizabeth~
This is so timely and so sweet.

The sweetest phrase ever
my lips did impart
were laid upon
my mother's heart

The sweetest sound
I ever heard
said to me
those same sweet words

Thank you for this loving thought.

they are truly the  greatest words

Sometimes you have to let go and move on,
But never let go of the memories.

Liz; Truly, truly the sweetest words of all, that melt our mothers hearts. Wondeful! Love, Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

This is very pretty, and those words really are sweet, almost as sweet as the first time a baby kisses you.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

I'm not a mother yet, unless you count my dog ((I do   )) but I can imagine how sweet those words would be coming from a child.. Very good read..

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.

Liz, Tear jerker, for sure.   Such a beautiful poem and I agree, from one mom to another.   Marcy
