Misty Memories The hills lay soft in the mist, the morning sun had yet to reach them, As he looked upon the scene, his youth seemed to beckon him. A horse and rider rode past his memory, he saw three brothers riding wild, With misty eyes he sat and dreamed, dreams of a distant, almost forgotten child. Long ago times came back to him in a rush, this place seemed to call his name, The times now were so different, but this place, this scene, it was the same. Hills, rocks and trees, time means little to them, they wait silently as we rush by, When our youth has fled and we recall our past, they alone hear our painful cry. The thoughts of those brothers, full of life and free to roam came strong, Sixty years ago ths place had been home, Hard to believe it had been that long. The little house, built by his Father, had long ago been taken by the years, He saw his Mother and Father through eyes that now were filled with tears. Walking to his car he stopped and looked back, just empty space, But his eyes saw a small log house, a horse tied to a post, a happy place, As he drove away he felt a deep sense of peace, and he knew in his heart, That the good life he had now, was deeply rooted in this simple start. |

Nostalgic...very peaceful, it was indeed a good read. I particularly loved the last bit when the main character realizes that he owes all to the simple little log cabin, and the free spirits he had/has. Thanks! |
