A poet junkie, I as well do seek a modern voice. And yet to not write "junky" must remain my conscious choice. And though I'm not a Shakespeare, Yeats (great poets of the Earth) or Wordsworth in my penmanship I'm giving my words worth. Or ever striving to, at least that honor may revive among contempo-poets that our craft might seem alive. I do not aim these words to you (your poem has great charm). It's just I feel that some extremes have done our talents harm. And many in the world today just 'cause they spill their ink imagine they are poets fine Yet I would urge them "Think before you give to everyone your private inner notions. Let them be incense to lure not nonsense noxious potions." Don't get me wrong. I think it's good to write on any fringe to supercede our fathers' forms. But still our laurels hinge upon the use of artful spin and thoughtfulness of pick with good device and message that poetics won't get sick. It's not today "old versus new" that makes the final call For freer lines can be bad too. Just write them well is all. A poet junkie, yes indeed a dealer too whose voice Will cry on "Verses" boulevard "make sure your smack is choice"! (The poet junkie idea intrigued me. I thought it was a good opportunity to share some of my personal views about poems. Please no one get offended. No aim to any individuals, just a fun way to express my mind. I enjoyed the poem "Poet Junkie" by Jon Mewett. I wrote this as sort of a satirical response. Thanks Jon for sharing.) |
