It was in youth when I first cast My eyes upon life’s tinselled road Those were the days I thought would last My shoulders strong could bear the load I didn’t think of vain tomorrow And now I am the child of sorrow The transient vision soon was fled And now life’s toils take their toll The happiness in blood was bled And sad remorse corrupts my soul I didn’t think of vain tomorrow And now I am the child of sorrow The lessons taught they pain my mind All joy removed from this sad life In storm clouds black there is no kind In swirling winds the sleet is rife I didn’t think of vain tomorrow And now I am the child of sorrow The tempest roars around my head And foreboding comes into my room Death beside creeps in bed The cold surrounds me like a tomb I didn’t think of vain tomorrow And now I am a child of sorrow But hope now stands in beacon bright And blinds my eyes with visions bold And on this steed I now alight Dashing sadness ….shunning cold For when you live in your tomorrow There is no room for a child of sorrow JOn Mewett |

Hanging onto regrets of the past can bring much sorrow in the present and future. Very good Jon. |

There are some poems that are written really well and some that you can relate to well...this is both. I really felt you in this one, Jon...tears in my eyes as I type. This really is a great poem. You can never have too much fiction; reality can be such a bore |
