The legend of the Thornbird, a mystifying bird Who sings just once in life the sweetest carol to be heard In fierce pursuit of the thorn tree, the Thornbird leaves its nest And never stops until it has fulfilled its final quest Silent its entire life until the final hour Then dying in the thorn tree, its voice begins to flower The whole world stops to listen to the music from the tree And God looks down and smiles upon the beauteous melody More lovely than the Nightingale, more melodious than the Lark The very first song it sings comes flowing from its heart What kind of bird would save so sweet a lyric until the end Its months of utter silence one single ballad to transcend Who is this peculiar creature, who would so beguile and mystify This strange, exotic, bewildering, warbling Thornbird - It is I Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 02-13-2000).] |

I was going to say exactly that Elizabeth ! You are no Thornbird. You sing with every word you write. I hope to read many more of your songs and feel the sweet vibration in my heart. Beautiful poem |

add my awe to this poem...this is excellent, so beautifully written with such vivid imagery and expression. very imaginative superb work. take care, janet marie In the time we've known That we each are a part of one another We've lost as much as we have won... And as our lives have grown We have found that it only brings us pain To hang on to the things that we have done... ***Still I love the times you've come*** Jackson Browne |

I have always been an extremely shy person, and was never able to express my thoughts, and I felt as though I was greatly misunderstood. But last year, when I started writing poetry, Everything I held inside of me all those years came flowing out of my pen That's why I call myself the Thornbird, because I waited so long to say what was in my heart. Thank you all for your sweet comments Liz |

Beautiful, Liz.. wonder where you get all these vocab from.. absolutely stunning - James The beauty of nature is displayed, not through itself, but through the creatures dwelling within its bosom. |

This is so romantic, Liz!! Reminds me of a book I once read: The Thorn Birds by colleen mccullough... There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of earth. From the mmt it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out-carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain...Or so says the legend. so was this the story, Liz? You conveyed it so painfully well in this surreal piece I can't help but SALUTE! love, michelle If there cannot be equal in affection, then let the one with more be me - midnightblues™ |
