Shakespeare's 'Hamlet': Death of Ophelia |

I had the urge to dabble a little in Shakespeare this week (my Mom sent me a book of Shakespeare's entire works) so I read 'Hamlet' again and decided Ophelia died too quickly. So, I won't give you the whole scene I wrote, but I will give you her words right before she dies. Now this takes place with her looking at herself in the water (the same water she is found drowned). The Hidden Scene Before Scene VII Ophelia: "My father did but raise me up A little, floral buttercup. I tried to stray from that grip, But thy heartstrings I did rip. Alas my father is now gone Leaving me to carry on, And you have now strayed from my grasp As if I were a poisoned asp. So take me at my word, true love, I shall float now like a dove Leaving thee alone and well But marching me along to hell. Antiquity is at my side I have no purpose from it to hide. The Devil shall become my friend There I'll sleep 'till thy bitter end." [To Audience] "My brother's hand shall stay him quick, A poisoned blade will make him sick Fortune is not at his side But you'll along for the ride. For if it is but chance, it be, I'm just a frightened bumblebee; My sting will have no effect On what his action will subject." [To River] "My message is drawing to a close, I have no more thoughts to impose. Laertes, sweet brother, I love thee so, Do not let fate be your foe." I am ready dear river; take me from this madness and lead me to that place where all of time stands still. So that my body may be cooled by thy pleasant water; before fire engulfs my tormented soul. (She jumps and drowns) Exuent "...at night I cling to you I'm so afraid; afraid the day will come and I'll wake up and find you gone. But you promise that you'd not abandon me and kissed my fears away but I woke up to that day..." 'Waking up Beside You' by Stabbing Westward |

This is excellent. Your use of language is wonderful. Never mind Will, you should be proud! To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

Beautiful! You've captured the essence well of the times and the feelings are so alive. Great poem! Ellie Belief is a truth held in the mind; faith is a fire in the heart. Joseph Fort Newton |

Oh goodness peoples! You're pulling up my past... I am so honored! Thank you everyone for your comments--although I don't think I could ever surpass good Willie's writing! Thanks again! ~~Jamie I mean the opposite of what I say. You've got it now? No, it's the other way. ~Bruce Bennett |

Standing ovation. I am not too familar with Shakespeare, never studied of his works in school, but wow that was an amazing piece of poetry. It's in your eyes a fire that's wild and glorious Unhibited, unfinished in everything I do Let the morning rise like our hearts desire" whipping boy |

Thank you Brian and Sol...honestly, it only took me a few minutes to write. For some reason, I've never liked how poor Ophelia was written off in 'Hamlet'--like, oh, she drowned! What a crock! I still like Willie though...he did know his human characters very well! Thanks for your comments! ~~Jamie I mean the opposite of what I say. You've got it now?
