The Shoe It looked out of place, a strange thing to see here, but we were used to seeing things surreal, This patrol had been long, two days now, and one more to go, just a normal grunt deal. I thought as I looked at it, that's a hell of a place for a shoe, We were in a canyon, heavy with brush, I looked around, where there is one, should be two. It was hot and we were tired, and a long way from our lines, But we stared at the bush that held the shoe, it seemed to grab our minds. We stopped for a break and I walked over to that thing, I carefully searched the area for a wire or a string,. I lit a smoke and looked at that shoe, it looked safe to me, What puzzled me most was, where could the other one be. What happened next was startling to me, and I'm sure it would be to you, For when I picked it from that bush, a complete foot, slid out of that shoe. enjoy your meal |
