The challenge was to write about our hometown, state, province, or country.  I thought that it would be interesting to take on the challenge of writing about my country, so understand why this is a little longer, I also use a different style than the other poems posted already

~*CANADA, MY HOME*~

The first nation of hockey and of peace,
a land of diversity,
of beauty, of culture and of freedom,
even heaven, in all it's glory,
could not match the unique beauty of Canada, my home,
for the senses delight
exists breathtaking waterfalls, rare wildlife,
rolling hills, larger than life mountains,
the great plains and crystal blue lakes,
nature so calming,
it comes to no surprise that people across the world travel to my homeland
just for a glimpse of sheer beauty,
fortunate, Canada remains
one of the very few countries in the world to enjoy four distinct seasons -
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter,
the best of everything,
songs of blue jays sing us into Springtime,
roses, daffodils, tulips, flowers galore
bloom in the garden of Canadian's hearts,
leading us to
heatwaves in Summer,
saling upon Lake Ontario,
basking in the warmth of the sun's golden ray's,
Ahh! The fresh crisp air of Autumn visits,
bringing with it
leaves painted on trees, all the colours of the rainbow,
more captivating than a painting by Monet,
for all Canadians to gaze upon,
and thus, leaves soon fall, leading us
to the glistening snows of Winter,
icy Northen winds do blow,
but, there is a magic this time of year,
children making snowmen, laughing in glee,
an enchanting symphony to all Canadian's ears
across the land -
Vancouver Island, Montreal, Saskatchewan,
Calgary, Ottawa and St. John's,
to mention just a few,
I myself, reside in St. Catharines,
"the garden city,"
in the province of Ontario,
across the border from New York,
mere hours away from the great mega city of Toronto,
charming and entertaining,
and moments away from Niagara Falls,
one of the seven wonders of the world,
but, I say that Canada, in all it's entirety,
from sea to shining sea,
should be the one and only wonder for all to behold,
ten provinces and two territories to be experienced,
with the maple leaf, red and white it's colour,
the national flag of Canada,
waving, dancing with joy in the wind,
it is then, that I pledge my devotion,
standing tall,
hand across my heart,
more proud than proud could ever be to call Canada my home,
for, God created a masterpiece
when He breathed Canada into existence

And You, Melissa- breathed a breath-taking masterpiece of splendor & pride when you took to your computer to create this wonderfully impressive poem about Canada the Beautiful.  I have traveled in some of the eastern Provinces and may will have passed through St. Catherines, too. What impressed my wife and I was the obvious pride that most Cadadians take, and how clean they kept things- unlike so many less than pictureseque places in my own country.  Thank you for taking the time to share all of this- in such a wonderful way!  David

Melissa, You make me want to visit Canada even more now than I have before. I knew it was beautiful yet you make it sound so much more. Thanks for a fabulous portrait of your Country.

Melissa, this takes my breath away. I have this special feeling for Canada ever since I first been there, more than twenty years ago.
I wrote a poem about your country once. For you I will repost it. I think you may enjoy it.
This was awesome ! I love it !

Melissa - How beautifully and proudly you describe your great country.  I've been to St. Catherines often, growing up in Buffalo. Used to go to Crystal Beach a lot as a child.  This is wonderful.  Bonnie

Melissa~

no words i could say would do
this poem justice, however i shall
try my best. the pride in which you
have for your country came flowing
out beautifully. i have never visited
Cananda but do plan to someday. I have
heard of it's beauty and magic, but you
my dear friend have captured it all on
paper. in a way i feel like i just went
there, you took me there   thanks for the
remarkable trip. excellent writing, to say
i am impressed would be a mild understatement.

I don't even know where to start to thank everyone for their awesome replies    Thank you!  I am overwhelmed and surprised by all the replies and support that I have received.
This is by far my favourite challenge that I have participated in.  When I saw it, I knew instantly that I had to write about not my province or city (which are both beautiful in their own right), but about Canada as a whole
All my friends in St. Catharines say that I am the proudest Canadian that they know, so this poem came easy for me, all I did was let my heart do the talking.

Take care,
Melissa Honeybee

Melissa put the kettle on I am coming over lol Canada sounds wonderful. I have seen some amazing photographs from their but your poem paints an even more vivid and glorious picture. Ok I will put it on my list of places to go directly under Australia ( which I have to visit).

An excellent poem and perfect response to the challenge. anything I write for the challenge will be an anticlimax compared to your opus. oK i will shut up now.

Brian, you are becoming one of my favourite repliers now.

You had me cracking up at your response:
"Antything I write for the challenge will be an anticlimax compared to your opus."

boy, you had better write one about Ireland, soon! or I will have to hop on a plane and teach you a lesson

Everybody's a comedian, huh? LOL  You've warped my mind, my friend

Take care,
