Here's one from my Nana's collection - I know she'd want this one shared here today...

A Toast to the Legionnaires
By Velma M. Carlson - (1903-1996)

Drink a toast to the Legionnaires
They deserve the toasts they receive.
Drink a toast to each lad in khaki
Who fought for us overseas.
They risked their lives in dugouts
In trenches deep with mud;
They gave with pain and tortures
And many with their life's blood.

Drink a toast to the Legionnaires.
Let's show them we love them all.
Drink a toast; give a silent prayer
To the lad who died for that cause.
To the lad who fought for days
Without any food or drink,
While bombshells burst and the
Cannon roared.
They didn't have time to think.

Drink a toast to the Legionnaires,
To the drafted, the volunteer;
To all who fought when the nation
Called
On the fields of France those years.
Drink a toast to the Legionnaires
Who were wounded overseas.'
To those who fought to the finish,
And did for you and me.
God bless these lads of ours,
Loyal, brave and true,
Who fought and won the war,
And saved the old "Red-White-and-Blue".
