This is one of my Nana's poems... one of her favorites...

The Little Christmas Tree
by Velma M. Carlson (1903-1996)

A little tree sits in the corner
...So very, very small.
It makes me think of years gone by ~
...Much better than none at all.
Five small candles in the window ~
...And a wreath hangs on the door.
I try to make it look like Christmas ~
...As it did so many years before.
Christmas, such a happy time ~
...Love and laughter everywhere ~
Time for loving, time for praying
...Time for giving; time to share.
Let's all have a "Merry Christmas"
...From the beginning to the end ~
Let us pray for peace on earth
...And good will toward all men.
A little tree sits in the corner
...And there are lights on every bough.
So many years have come and gone
...I remember all of them somehow.
Christmas, such a happy time, as
...we wait for it to come,
"Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas ~
...Merry Christmas, everyone"!

I can see why it's one of her favorites, Nan! Loved every word.

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

I just love the small Christmas trees!  Once when I was a little girl, we waited till the last minute to get our tree, and of course, they were already picked over....not much left to choose from....Anyway, I saw this little tiny sad looking tree all by itself...no one wanted it...I felt so sorry for "it"....    I told dad that it was the one I wanted!  He thought I had lost my mind....we asked the man how much - and he said ...."OH gees...I'll let you have that thing for $3 - I took it home, and decorated it, and was probably the proudest little girl in town!  Call me a softie, I know....but this poem reminded me of that...So thanks for bringing back some very fond memories of mine!  Merry Christmas to ya BTW!!

Nan -

You tell Nana that it is PERFECT.

I do a small memorial Christmas tree
for each family member who is no longer
here to celebrate with us.
I decorate them with memories of each of
them.  It gives me peace and comfort
to have something of them with me as we
celebrate our family joy at Christmas.
Out of all of the traditions I share with
my children ... this is the one they
want the most to continue in their lives.

*Thanks to ~Nana for the wonderful feeling
of warmth she shared.

A very beautiful, poem.  Thank you for sharing.  I know the warmth a Christmas tree, any size, brings to the house.  Was freshly reminded this year.

Merry Christmas Nan, to you and yours.
