Behind the Thin Curtain

a crispy curtain of fog
drapes the morning sun
nevertheless
the promise of warmth
lingers just beyond
the morning’s chill

I pull the fabric
over me
as I await
with wrapped
anticipation
this special day
this American Day
of Thanksgiving

knowing there is pain
hunger, fear
all around the world
increases my gratitude
for the gift of safety
shelter
friends
and the ability
to pray that one day
it will come to all of you
as well

Oh, may it be so.
May there be only
a thin, weak curtain
draped between
your hope
and your realization
of the peace
that passes all understanding.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Just lovely is right! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Let there be peace on earth,
and let it begin with me.

Hi VAS,
I am new to this sight. Betty Hebert recommended it to me. Your poem is one of the first that I read after hers. I really like it. I think when you read someone's poetry, you see into the person.
Bear with me while I figure out what I am doing. Sincerely, Beasley
