The Cross of Wood

It was a simple cross of wood
Between two others, there it stood
Upon the hill called Calvary
Where Jesus died for you and me.
The sky was dark that fateful day
Drear and dull, with clouds of gray
With cross on back, uphill He climbed,
With our sins weighing on His mind.
And each moment, weaker He grew
His fate our Lord Jesus He knew.
But still He climbed up to the top
Weak as He was, He did not stop.
His mother Mary wept for Him-
Her only Son, with fate so grim.
Our Jesus died that afternoon
And buried in a borrowed tomb.
Three days behind a stone He laid
Seeing neither light nor shade.
But soon the stone was rolled away-
A miracle, first Easter Day!
Jesus Christ rose from the grave
Our sinful souls He then did save
By death upon the cross of wood
That in between two others stood.

Elizabeth~
Thank you sooooooooo much for sharing the beauty of this piece.
I'm touched by the poignancy of the Easter story always.

Happy Easter, dear poet.

Great job on this one!
This was amazing. I truly enjoyed this one. It hit me....right in the heart.....wonderful!

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily
