Leaves to rake, bulbs to plant,
Lord there is so much to do,
The yard looks like a bomb went off,
If only the sun would poke through.

I grab my rake and start the task,
Ugh, the leaves are still all wet,
They don't seem to want to leave this place
At least just not quite yet.

Beneath them a virtual insect zone,
Every crawling thing on earth,
Scurrying quickly out of the way,
Is this what's meant by re-birth?

The squirrels are chattering loudly at me,
They want to get to that food,
The blue jays attacking from behind,
They aren't in a very good mood.

Now the worms hear all this commotion,
And dart back into their hole,
Hugh spiders seem to be everywhere,
And they're scaring the poor little mole.

But to make this yard come to life,
I need to put my hands in this dirt,
Get down on my knees near all these things,
With disaster I'm challenged to flirt.

I am itching all over just looking around,
No way can I get near those bugs,
Overcoming the fear I dig a hole,
And find a nest of huge slugs!!

I'm giving up, they're after me,
I won't plant even one little seed,
With any luck some blossoms will grow,
From all of those ugly weeds.

I'll find the beauty in nature,
From what God has planted there,
I'll leave His little creatures alone,
I will not accept their dare.

Dear Bonnie,
Loved it. I read your poem out loud to my son and we both had a good chuckle. I'm still smiling thinking about it. I love flowers but do not like bugs. You should hear the screams when I see one of those huge spiders.
Thanks for a great poem and the smiles.
May the Lord always grow flowers in your garden.
Praise the Lord,
Erie

Bonnie, What a delightful view of your day,  your vision expanded to the wonerful complexity we often just ignore, the Lord GOD made them all, we often forget we are not his only creations. I really enjoyed this work! Dennis :^)

I too enjoyed your whimsical trek outside to the wilds of your yard.  Yes it is getting that time again, but hang in there and remember that tho' we share His creation with other entities, yet He has given us the dominion,  Claim it-and go for that most lovely yard you've been wanting!
Thank you for brightening my day,  David

LOL, wow, I am not much of a bug person either.  I can relate to this! It gave me a good laugh.  I used to live in Ark for a while and the bugs there were just unbelievable.  I couldn't even sit outside they just jumped all over you...I'd be running in the house screamin! This was a treasure!

I'm going to the house! Laugh! This is great. I love a sense of humor. God's creatures great and small...and slimy!
Thanks for everything Bonnie! You're a true inspiration.
Sincerely,
Regina...
