Although her stains were many Her reputation scorned He never saw that part of her He knew she could be reborn His eyes would pierce right through Ugliness too hard to miss Melted only by acceptance Embraced by love's kiss No one else wanted The part he took to hold They only wanted to use her Then would stand to scold Years of being trapped In sin and condemning voices Drove her to her knees Showed her other choices Saved from herself She knew this was no ordinary John She caught a glimpse She knew it was a new dawn As her torn dress began to unravel And her painted face hot with tears He took away all of the dirtiness She had felt for so many years She never had a love such as this A man who did not buy Instead he only gave freely She wondered why? As she let herself open And listened with an intent The years of being unloved This man alone would circumvent He saved her from her accuser's And gave her a new start He did it so miraculously When he gave her a new heart |

Great work depicting where sin abounds, grace abounds more and that He knows what we have need of. Thank you. |

Dear Illusion, Thank you so much for spelling out the love and compassion in this poem by how he saw a persons beauty and worth beyond the scars and the outer shell. Not only to overcome the sin of herself but to strengthen against sin of others. He gave her back herself renewed in him. I loved this! Sincerely, Rwood |

Ya know it has a sadness to it, but also a love like we'll never find in anyone else. You have a way of putting it in verse. Very well done!! |

Thank you all for your wonderful comments!! When I wrote this poem, I had a woman of course in mind. This was inspired by the love Jesus would show for "stained" women that society rejects, while he embraces. I thought about him going out of his way to reach out to the woman at the well, his mercy on the adultress, and how he openly accepted the woman who anointed his feet. I wrote this poem portraying a prostitute (that is why the statement, "She knew this was no ordinary "John"). I can see her wondering in the back of her mind, if this man too wanted to use her like all of the rest. I had women like Mary Magdalene in mind. I included some research done about the story in Luke 7:37-50. Thanks for taking the time to read! Luke 7:37-50 The Scriptures do not describe her illness. Mary Magdalene has been associated with the "woman in the city who was a sinner" (Copyright (C) 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers) MARY Mary Magdalene is also often associated with the woman whom Jesus saved from stoning after she had been taken in adultery (from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary) (Copyright (C) 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers) |
