LOTHLORIEN Lothlorien! A name to conjure with in search of perfect truth. A magic place by Tolkien's blessed heart devised and given to mankind to find that sweet light of total love wherein each soul resides' The silvering sounds of gentle voices, childrens laughter, breezes whispering in harmony through singing elven chimes. lamps softly lit, glowing golden into the shadowed places warming all with love and joy who enter, for all time. Souls in rapture all complete, so sweet, so sweet. O Maker, bring my loved ones there that I may rest in peace. Lothlorien! |

A Warm Welcome to you, WHIPSNADE, Your poem is very interesting-it comes from a different perspective and gives us another view of how the Spiritual Journey translates into the lives of some. We too, have our differences, but we share in common the seeking of the highest & most noble traits & blessing --such as is suggested in your work "to find that sweet light of total love...souls in rapture all complete..." "Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw- |

Thank you Ellie, sandgrain and BSC for your very kind words. This is my first public "exposure" of a very limited output created in a closet. I will continue to lurk however, enjoying all of your fine poetry until I work up the courage perhaps to sally forth again. |

From J.R.R. Tolkien? It's been a while, but I know he wrote of beautiful imaginary places and beings. Your poem is beautiful as well. I can imagine the childlike spirit and innocent love. Welcome to Spiritual Journeys! Sincerely, Rwood |

To Deleeme and rwood,, thank you for your welcoming comments,, and yes Tolkien was the spark {I dasn't call it inspiration} for that effort. Back in the 70's I read the trilogy to my younger kids when we were blessed with a busted tv for 2 years. I became hooked on these "kids" books and fell entirely in love with his inspired works.. To wht dove thank you for the lovely card and encouragement To BSC and cassie I offer the following of my efforts in hopes it may offer some solace and insight. DEJA VUE |

Whips: Your title lured me out of my lair (Critical Analysis). I just had to mention that it was refreshing to know that someone else recognized the biblical allegory in Tolkien's Middle-Earth novels. Tolkien would have trouble with me calling it "allegory" if he was still alive but, hey, what else would you call the "twelve" followers of Gandalf in the Hobbit (the dwarves), the distinctly Christian view of divine providence portrayed in "The Fellowship of the Ring" at Lothlorien when Frodo asked "why" he was chosen, and of course the most obvious, Gandalf being swept off the bridge at Kadz'dum (sp?) by the Balralg (demon), battling with it in the abyss for three days, dying and being raised from the dead gloriously. Thanks for bringing this back to me. Jim |

To Jbouder Thanks for that very succinct and perceptive overview. I confess that in my many readings I was so awash in his absorbing imagery, plot and romance that only some of the parallels you draw occurred to me in passing and I didn't correlate them metaphorically. Well done sir... Ricardo {whips} |

Thanks, Ricardo. If you're interested in perusing this subject further I would recommend a book entitled "Myth, Allegory and Gospel" edited by John Warwick Montgomery. It's a fascinating book with interesting insights into the writings of Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and Williams (The "Inklings"). After reading this book I think it is clear that there is not so much of a "different perspective" here that at first meets the eye. Thanks again for the read.
