Grandmaw sang sweetly The hymns of her youth As peaceful as baby's breath I clung to each tune Each note rang heavenward To the mountains up high Getting caught in the mist Of the sweet by and by Her voice, oh so steady and seasoned with age She never knew I listened As she was on heaven's stage It was meant for devotion To her savior and his grace Even when she ached all over She sang through the pain When her voice became a whisper The mountains still heard They sent the mist into the valley and gathered her words Her voice brought tranquility To the mountains and trees One night at fifteen It brought me to my knees She sang sweeter than ever Her hands reaching high Thank you sweet Jesus She whispered and cried I thank God for her ministry And gifting her with song She knew each verse held a message so strong The mist in the valley My gentle reminder now Of Grandmaw's spirit Sweetly reaching down Now I imagine her Hovering with pride with ten thousand angels Singing right by her side A glorious a cappella translucent white robes Billowing through the valley Calling us home I love you Grandmaw [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 03-02-2000).] |

Dear rwood; This one took my breath away! The imagery and the beauty,I was right there. I loved my gradmother very much and she was my saving grace in a painful childhood. She also had a great faith that she gave to me. You've touched my heart today, and brought back happy memories, and I thank you for it. Ellie 02 |

I agree, the imagery is wonderful! A gift she had, a voice, and used to praise His name, and I wonder if she knew how it affected you. Using it for His purpose, what a wonderful story you've put into verse. <*\\\>< There's only two ways you can go... One way you can save your riches, And the other will save your soul. Rich Mullins |

RWOOD, This is a lovely tribute, of a most wonderful and significant influence in your life. What a wonderful way to keep that influence going by sharing it with others, who were not so privileged to know her as you did. I appreciate you sharing this with us, David "Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw- |

rdwood this was absolutely beautiful. I was there, on a porch in a valley filled with mist, listening to the sweet voice of your grandma. What a sense it gives me - goosebumps! Isn't it amazing how little things like this can impact us so much? God used her praises to draw you near - wonderful! Written so lovely too, with grace this poem flows... thanks. |

Amen to previous comments and this beautifully written piece is so encouraging to me as I often wonder if there's anything I do (I can't sing well) will bring my grandchildren closer to our Lord. Perhaps they'll remember my thanking Him for everything, praying for different people or causes with the passing of each train car as we wait to cross the tracks, or??? |
