My Coach

You are my faithful friend,
my coach, my sparring partner,
You teach me all about defense,
fair play, and not to barter,
or fix a fight for evil ends...

And though sometimes Your lessons hurt,
You feel my pains, my fears as well.
Though it may seem You do not care,
about my groaning, my longing for the bell,
You'll stay around to wipe my face...

But when You send me, tough and trim,
into the ring of daily life, to face
my foe, the Evil One, who waits
to fight me for what should be Yours,
You're there to quench my fear, my coach,
my God...

Dear Willem; What a perfect analogy. I loved it! Simply stated too. Have a beautiful day and give my love to your bride.

My Coach, what a way to put it. I never thought of Him that way. We battle everyda over good and evil. I really like how you brought this across. Very well done.

When you can't make up your mind
Which way is right for you,
Stop and softly ask yourself,
What Would Jesus Do?

Amen to that Willem, and He is the best darn coach I can think of!

Just be glad I'm not your child! *evil grin*

Wow! I've never thought of the battle this way, but you are so right.  Nice poem.
