Elijah, The Prophet

Elijah was a prophet,
When Ahab was the king.
God sent him to tell Ahab,
That He was going to bring
A drought, because of evil
That flourished in the land
And there would be no rain or dew,
Except at God's command.

Then God hid Elijah,
Beside a brook where he
Was waited on by ravens
And every day he'd see
Them flying in the morning
And in the evening too,
Bringing him some bread and meat,
As God asked them to do.

After while, Elijah went,
To a widow and her son.
Who shared their home and food,
Until the drought was done.
While he tarried there she found,
Her meal and oil did not run out.
She cooked as much as needed,
With plenty still about!

The son fell ill.The mother
Was filled with fear and she
Requested of Elijah,
A miracle, so he
Beseeched the Lord to shower
His blessings on the boy.
God answered and He saved him,
Which filled their hearts with joy!

There's much more to Elijah
Than I have written here,
So open up your Bible.
The rest will soon appear!

1 Kings:Chapter 17

Betty; Thank you for this lovely poetic verse of the story of Elijah...one of my favorites! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

ellie:  Thanks for commenting.  Elijah's life was so fruitful and I would have liked to include more of it, but the poem was already long as it stands. Glad you liked it.

We need more prophets like Elijah, especially in these days. Thank you for the revelation! Very well written Trillium! Excellent piece!
God Bless!

Dulcinea:  I appreciate your comments and it would be wonderful to have prophets like Elijah today.  I often wonder why we don't?

Betty ~~ Thank you for the reminder of Elijah today. It is a good story of sharing and faith and one that needs to be refreshed often.

The Old Testament is filled with such wisdom and knowledge that is desperately needed in our world today.

Hugs, Marti
